The GOT Book Club

we've all the seen the godfather!! but please read the book. it ties up all the loose ends of the film. when you've finished that go check out mario puzo's other books, Omerta and Fools Die are both [Poor language removed] awesome from his back catalogue and if i had the money and publishing rights i turn them into movies.
this might sound sad but michael j fox's bio is fantastic it's called lucky man.

catcher is a cracking book. i read jig by cambell armstrong recently that was ace, its about an IRA assasin. Jack London's Call of the wild is brill too. My fravourite all time book though is Lord of the Rings....awsome

if you like crime books James Elroy is the bollox!

working offshore, I'll read just about anything, just finished GLUE by Irvine Welsh, really good, especially if you've read Trainspotting and Porno

Trainspotting will go down as a classic. A brilliant piece of work. Also loved the Acid House, particularly the novella: A Smart C u n t. I read a couple more by him which I wasn't that impressed by, which were Ecstasy and Maribu Stork Nightmares.

Catcher in the Rye is amazing. I've read it twice, which is always the sign that something is worth reading. Very miserable, depressing book, though.

I bought this one straight after I finished the Da Vinci Code (which I thought was quality if you can manage to get yourself sucked into the story) but have not got round to reading it. I might dig it out and have a crack at it.

Its a good read. If you liked the Da Vinci Code you'll like this one too. Although its a fiction book all the places in the book from the secret underground passageways in Italy to CERN and the Antimatter experiment are factual. This book is about 8 yrs old now and he describes what CERN did underground last month to a tee. Read on...

Thumbs up on The Catcher,

Just finished war and peace wasnt overly impressed to be honest!

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy must be read before you die it should be law or something! Worst thing they ever did was make a movie out of it.

Nice idea for a thread, but I thought it was going to be like a real book club where everyone reads the same thing?? To the guys who like real-crime and mafia books why not try 'Gomorrah' by Roberto Saviano, which is about the Naples crime organisations. It's been adapted into a film being released soon.
Recycled my copy of DaVinci Code halfway through, hopefully it will get put to good use! But don't be angry because I hope if you read 'The Count of Monte Cristo' you'll really enjoy it. Classic thriller/revenge/adventure.

Absolutely splendid book. gripping from start to finish. I believe there was a Richard chamberlain film made from it also.

It really is gripping. It looks quite daunting as it's about 1000 pages, but once you've started you'll be thankful because it lasts for so long.

the film is rabbash. It would need to be about 9 hours long to do it properly, so they changed the plot.

Same with Shogun, Lord of the rings, Schindlers list etc, making films of them is sacrilege as they never do the books justice and miss far too much out.

life of pi - yann martel this has been in the bookstores for 3 or 4 years now but is still a book that will stay with you after reading it. a slow starter but one that you can't put down at 3 am when the alarm is going off at 6.40 the next morning~!

the alchemist - paulo coelho this is a short book and wont take you long to read, but must be unique in that it's the book that most people read and then say it is their favourite of all time. it's an easy read and if you are new to books then this is a great start to open you to your wider world.

p.g wodehouse the books are a good 60 years or so old now but you just can't beat the classic comedy this old boy writes. a must for every book collection is a title of his work.

and of course how could i let this thread go without a big up to the big man...

terry pratchett - pyramids of course i have to choose pyramids~! you will understand when you read it!!
