The Go-Between by L. P. Hartley 1953

Coming of age/loss of innocence story about a young boy at the end of the Victorian age who holidays at his school friends estate and gets roped into being the messenger between two socially different lovers, tragedy ensues.

Lovingly written, but I struggled through to the end as I felt the story was basic and the flowery prose of youth was padding out the pages. Glad I finished it though. A book probably more famous for its opening line: The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

Reading this at the moment. Some stories really enhance the scenes, some are a bit meh, but still are interesting enough when the scene is being set.

About half way through at the moment, just read the incident report being written up, against Vader nearly choking that guy. Very funny from the chokee perspective.

He can be a bit 'wordy' ; he also did write some excellent ghost/supernatural stories. Haven't read them all, but going from those that I have, I'd highly recommend giving them a go.

Just reading this- if you know your history it is what Shakespeare uses as the first part of his HollowCrown plays which is what Game of Thrones used for inspiration.

Uncanny the similarities between Richard II and Trump.

England at risk of invasion by The Scots,French and Spaniards and Richard sulking and won’t engage with the defence of the country because the Commons wont agree to the titles he has given to his cronies as we find out Trump is sulking and threatening to destroy NATO/The World Economy because he didn’t get a Noble Peace Prize.

It’s the Mark Twain thing about history doesn’t repeat but it certainly rhymes.

Excellent read, and not to academic, if this type of history is your thing.

Read Automatic Noodle by Analee Newitz.

In a not too distant future, following a civil war, robots in San Francisco open a noodle restaurant. They work as a team. They overcome negative reviews from robophobes and the future looks bright for them.

Just saved you readin 160 pointless pages. Absolute rubbish. 2/10.

Next up is a Hornblower book.
