Stuff like this will hurt Labour much more than any faux scandal and is the reason why you can't promise to do too much inside a term or two.

Mind you the Tories aren't a lot better with their spend to win amongst a backdrop of brexit wrecking the economy but still. You don't need to hand your enemies knives to inflict you more pain.

I've got no problem with some places being better than others - it's a fact of life. The important thing though is social mobility - creating equal opportunities to better yourself. There's no reason why state facilities should differ from area to area. A school in Kirkby should be just as good as one anywhere else, as should health care provision, care homes etc.

Totally agree.....

So 1,200,000,000,000 over 5 years, A debt of about £20,000 for every man woman and child to pay back. This is why people say he will bankrupt the country, because he simply will......

How have the Tories priced a manifesto that hasn't been released yet? Amazing how they even know what Labour are going to spend but don't have the figures for their own plans.

Just look at the front page of all those newspapers today. The type of media that would give the North Korean press a run for its money. Aren't you embarrassed to hang on its every word?

The thing that has hurt the Labour Party more than anything else since it was established in 1900 is the rigged system it has to operate in. Just look at the front pages of the newspapers today. They're a disgrace to the name democracy.

Meanwhile you've got Boris Johnson over in Northern Ireland being caught outright lies yet again. Where's the front page splash for that?

Of course he isn't. It's exactly the kind of out he needs to justify his beliefs.

I don't disagree with you, the media is biased and most people of sound mind agree. However what you wrote here:

Belies the element of truth in it. Sure this is worst case scenario, but if you were trying to sell papers you'd sex up the numbers too. Labour have promised to do a lot and that will cost a lot. So basic economic principles mean at least one of these things has to happen:
  • Labour believe under their stewardship and infrastructure spending that the economy will boom to cover these policies.
  • Increased borrowing which is going to mean future government spending might be curtailed and passing of the problem to a younger generation.
  • Large tax increases.
  • We turn into Greece if the economy fails. The increased tax values don't return the yield due to the stuttering economy, the banks we have borrowed from will give us ever higher interest rates. The vicious circle continues.
It is a legitimate concern and the reason why the more moderate progressives would rather follow tweaking than the rip up and start again method. It isn't perfect but would make it a lot easier to get and hold on to power.

Pipe dream to have it universal.

In reality though, that's much easier said than done because to have equality of service you need the same quality of people working in each of those places, and it's sadly a reality that some places are far more attractive to live in than others.

You know what the worst part is, if it was Ed Miliband in charge of the party on a more centrist platform, he would be facing the exact same kind of headlines. It would be incredibly difficult for whoever was in charge of the Labour Party to win an election.

I mean in terms of facilities rather than personnel.

The teachers may be crap but the school itself should have the same money available for resources regardless of where it is.

As the Finnish will tell ya, it's the teachers that often make the difference, especially in working class communities that haven't always valued education a great deal.

Well, no. If we are talking about basic economic principles, I'd have thought the most basic one is that if you own a thing then you can make money out of it (either over time or by selling it); build a house for instance and someone will probably pay you to either live in it or buy it and if that is more than it cost you to build, you are making money.

What Labour are planning to do is to buy up (or create) assets, which is a far more sensible policy than paying other people to use theirs. This is after all why privatization of things the government needs has resulted in government spending going up, not down, and why every adult in the entire country knows that buying a house makes far more economic sense than renting.
