There is a sense, and I sense it because I've largely done exactly the same with regards to Brexit, that it's the other person that needs to do the budging, and you're (the royal you) the one to educate them. There doesn't appear to be a great deal of compromise in values and beliefs the other way, which is perhaps an issue and why so few people appear to budge from their ideological stances. This can be especially problematic when the ones doing the proselytising are those of us who happen to live in London.

Agree, I've just totally given on Facebook now because my entire feed is just people calling people they disagree with names. No attempt to reach out, convince or even to understand. Just "If you don't think like me, you're a bad person"

It's discouraging.

Who was preaching here, though? Most of the responses were people pointing out Mann was wrong and citing clear reasons why they disagreed with what he said (reasons which weren’t then acknowledged by the other side).

When criticism of Labour is actually warranted and isn’t just the usual people making their usual points for their usual reasons, it isn’t just dismissed.

Yep, this 100%.

I deactivated my Facebook account the day after the election was called. Couldn't hack 6 weeks of people screeching at each other and really not giving a crap what anyone else has to say outside of their echo chamber.

Not saying I'm any better like.

Looking at the list of parties above, I can understand why somebody would believe any one of them represented their interests and aspirations. It doesn't mean I agree with those things, but I don't think you're a terrible person because of the political party you vote for. There's far better reasons to think somebody is a terrible person.

If more people asked those they disagree with "Why is it you think that way?" rather than just dismiss their views as stupid/racist/evil then we would, perhaps, come to understand that we all want the same things, we just disagree on what success looks like.

I am also guilty of dismissing some people out of hand or going for a cheap joke at times. However, I am secretly happy I don't have a vote in this election.

It's interesting to see the views of various Labour folk who say they're struggling to back Corbyn summarily dismissed as though they lack the intellect to see the brilliance of Corbynism. It feels like the Brexit debacle all over again. Isn't it your job to reach out to people like that rather than aloofly dismiss them? :coffee:

The poster you're referring to claimed that Labour's transit policies would only benefit the South East.

I pointed out that they will also build HS2 all the way to Scotland, and HS3, and more importantly, boost funding for buses and restore municipal control.

He replied by accusing me and others of living in a London bubble (I live 200+ miles away) and of doing nothing more than spreading gossip on facebook and twitter (I don't use either).

So yes, in that sense, it is a bit like you spending the past three years bouncing off Joe, I suppose.

Shame though that he didn't try to reach out to me, and instead aloofly dismissed me (with lazy personal accusations, none of which are true) ; )

Anyhow, as a Labour supporter, it's more worrying that we're being represented on the doorstep by people who have no idea how to respond when asked how Labour will help their constituency; who apparently aren't aware of major elements of the manifesto; and who resort to lazy stereotypes rather than listening to people.

They could be a triathlete.

We're almost in the margin of error for the more reputable opinion polls. Hung parliament territory. If that's the case, then it's Corbyn as PM and dare the Lib Dems and SNP to vote down our transformative agenda.
Coupled with knocking the RS out of the FA Cup then it's going to be a great start to 2020.

What an utterly idiotic policy to come out with. Mann, who has more Labour blood in his little toe than the London-centric establishment lot, is bang on.

I had the misfortune to have some dealings with John Mann. He is an utter prick, a vile man.
This "proper labour man" had a bet on Labour not winning the general election, when he was running for MP himself. He is a self centred arsehole.
