It's dodgy ground the Tories are on really not turning up. While there is a bias between the BBC and the Tories, the key point is it's not supposed to ever look absolutely explicit. In such cases it loses it's affect.

If he doesn't turn up, the BBC's competitors will be all over it. Piers Morgan and Sky News (both essentially Tory outfits) will see opportunity to attack the Tories and the BBC on their hypocrisy. Morgan has already started down that line.

You also have to factor in, that this is Neil's big moment. If this year Johnson pulls out and see there is no consequence, don't expect anybody to ever do an interview with him or potentially the BBC again.

So I could see a scenario where they empty chair him, and Neil reads out a list of failures that he'd like to ask Johnson about. It would be prime TV.

If he doesn't turn up, also factor in this will be a major talking point. I'm sure each opposition leader if pressed will pivot back to it- however bad you think I am at least I am brave enough to turn up. It kind of reduces the damage of a bad interview.

So in many ways I hope they try to pull out. People are very aware of it now.

It's a lose lose either way, as if he turns up, he will be wholly embarrassed as well.

Didn't May do a similar thing? It just makes them look weak when not being able to respond.

Even if they do there wont be any shareable clips of him making gaffes or him being absolutely savaged by Andrew Neil.

A damage limitation focus is what is required now, they've already got the numbers.

They're looking for Marr not Neil to do it now.

Mind you, I said before on here that Neil is of the same stripe as Johnson - both Tories and both ex editors of the Spectator. That'd be a kid-on roasting Johnson would get.

The man to do the interview and REALLY cane the turd would be Eddie Mair. He hates Johnson with a passion and would eviscerate him.

Nearly 4 million voter registrations since October 29th... No wonder Johnson and his cronies are hiding from all media friend or fair... There is shock coming for some despite their polls;)

Those registration numbers aren't reflected in the super dooper "MRB" poll either....which was also done a week or so ago and doesn't reflect where we are now as much.

Tactical voting and informal pacts around the country on the non-Tory side + the newly registered getting to the ballot box will make this a very close race.

The people in Labour Leave areas stating they'll vote Tory: no way they'll get down the polling station in anything like the numbers the Tories want...and the Tories have no ground war machine in the north especially that can get the dirty Judas turncoats there either.

I don't like Weetabix head but I think he's pretty decent at maintaining impartiality when it comes to savaging politicians of whatever stripe.

You're right about Mair though, he loathes the turd and would take great pleasure in shredding him.

Id love this to be true from the Guardian btw:

"Jeremy Corbyn, Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish first minister and SNP leader, Jo Swinson, the Lib Dem leader, Adam Price, the Plaid Cymru leader and Sîan Berry, the Green co-leader, have been preparing for a Channel 4 News leaders’ debate on the environment starting at 7pm. Boris Johnson has refused an invitation to appear, and reportedly Channel 4 is planning to replace him with an ice sculpture that should melt under the glare of the studio lights."

The BBC were reporting earlier that there will be 2 sculptured ice chairs for Johnson and Farage.

So much before the Manifesto, and whatever the Tories call their effort.

Factor the normal margins of error. And surge in 18 to 30 vote for centre left progressive policy, how do the centre ground go, bish bosh...

Becoming an issue now that Johnson is on the run from even friendly media scrutiny.

It is true!
