...I have no problem voting for a Liverpool fan, Fred, but not an ignorant one. I’d genuinely feel the same if it was an Evertonian posting similar about Reds fans.

I expect my MP to have high moral standards, it’s an amazingly responsible position. I expect my MP to be bright and know the difference between right and wrong. it looks increasingly like Momentum want the party hierarchy filled with shop stewards. The loonies are running the asylum, I want my Labour Party back.
Sorry mate but momentum had no part in his selection......that accusation was from ages ago and is now being used against him. if he did say that then he has changed his attitude over the last few years...is that not permissible? He has stood along with Dave Kelly our own wellknown fan to support initiatives such as both sets of fans collecting for foodbanks, amongst others. Tell you what mate I would rather my local MP be an ex shop steward /union representative than a gravy train riding seat for life incumbent.

Who did you vote for in the constituency selection?

...I didn’t. From what I gather, it was a close run thing, with Byrne defeating an even leftier Momentum candidate. I actually didn’t know Stephen Twigg wasn’t standing until a few days ago.

The press are being ‘blamed’ for unearthing these tweets, but the blame rests with the person who made them.

Middle-aged RS fan changed his attitude? Don't be silly mate, can't be done. It's too big a character flaw to be fit for parliament, so I can see how Eggs is on the horns of a dilemma here. End of the day voting for a RS is just a matter for your conscience as the seat is cast iron labour.

Which bit?
Think I meant to respond to another post.
However, academies and free schools are non-profit-making, state-funded schools which are free to attend but which are mostly independent of the local authority.
A lot of the time they are run by corporations however not for profit. Usually ego driven project.

...I want my Member of Parliament to have a decent moral compass, bright mind and know the difference between right and wrong. Some of the tweets might be old, but Byrne isn’t a youngster. Being an MP is a high public office.

Mrs Eggs and both worked in the public sector for over 40 years. My daughter is a Consultant surgeon, her husband a pharmacist. My son is an ex-school teacher, my daughter-in-law is a teacher. All 6 of us live in West Derby, all 6 of us are Labour voters, we have first hand knowledge of how public services decline under a Tory Government, but we want better than Byrne representing us.

My mates are Blues and Reds, most are ex-dockers. Decent lads and proper socialists with moral judgement who know what lines you shouldn’t pass. I’ll gauge their views on Saturday, but I know they are disappointed.

It was a very close run thing. A few votes in it. Honestly, you should join West Derby CLP if you´re passionate about your version of Labour. Contrary to what people would have you believe, it´s not some Momentum sect thinking of ways to nationalise your back garden. It´s people like my 89 year old Nan who just want something better for our country.

You said before you want your Labour Party back but where was my Labour Party when we went to war in Iraq? Where was it in 2015 when we ran on a watered down Tory manifesto? I and many others stuck around though and fought to shift the narrative towards more socialist policies. If you want it to reverse the other way then I would say do something about it. Easiest thing in the world is to sit here and criticise but being proactive can actually make a difference.

I understand your viewpoint as I would be facing the same moral dilemma too in that situation. It's fine to vote for a sound RS supporter (if that is a thing) but one who openly tweets things like that (even if it was a long time ago) won't have changed his views (in private) and thus is not what I would call the right sort to be an MP. I bet he'd happily try to get one over Everton and people who support Everton given half a chance to brag to his RS mates.

That said everyone has a part to play to stop the dulux dog and the haunted pencil from getting a majority. You are lucky that the Tory party won't get anywhere near Labour in West Derby so you kind of can protest without fear, but in other constituencies people may have to suck it up and vote for someone they aren't keen on for the greater good.

Ok if that is your view then fine, it is different from mine. Both myself and my wife worked in the public sector; me for 47 years, my wife for 4 years less so I actually do understand how public services decline under both Tory and Red tory governments. I will not comment on what a "proper socialist" is you may have a different definition than I. I have 3 grown up lads but their voting intentions are their own choice and have no relevance to my own views....its not a competition. who would you like amongst the other candidates who stood for the position? Which dept were you in? I was in what is now known as DWP, amongst other depts early on.

What lines "shouldn't you pass?"

He actually has changed his views.....please dont make assumptions without knowing the man.....has it come down to voting for rs or EFC candidates? I do go along with your last paragraph though....and if I was in the same position then I would have to give whom I vote for more consideration than I do now...not easy is it this voting game with our current system? Perhaps it needs to change.

Yeah. I was being tongue in cheek about tge RS fan. Serious about not voting though.

A watered down tory manifesto is popular election winner. Far better than a Tory manifesto
