there are of course more bars, restaurants and clubs. i listed the ones that are side by side and close by.

thursday after the game is the start of the carnival. the festivities happen in the lower old town (from zytglogge (clock tower)) to nydegg.

my favorite bars are in the rathausgasse. but i'm gonna avoid this area cause of the carnival. i'm a classic fun sponge.

friends of the art of dancing without unnecessary clothes may go to following venues:
messy's (neuengasse)
gentlemens club (schweizerhofpassage)
perroquet (laupenstrasse)

and there are 2 pubs in the city center:
mr. pickwicks (wallgasse)
nelson (spitalgasse)

have fun (but not to much - it's switzerland after all)

Where are the best places for a late drink in Bern on the Wednesday night as I won't be arriving until around midnight?

My swiss francs came - they are 100 and 50 notes. Will this be a problem?

No, don't worry mate. Know what you mean though, I'm used to people being suspicious (in the UK) of £50 notes. Over here nobody will bat an eyelid. I was in the Coop this morning and the woman in front of me bought a packet of chewing gum and a yoghurt. She paid with a 200 franc note...

So coach gets us back to Dorint hotel Zurich at 10.30ish.....

If we venture into town will we be able to get a beer on a thurs night.....if so where should we go...

Anywhere around Langstrasse, the red-light district. Bars open late there. Otherwise Paddy Reilly's will be open til 12 or so, ditto Kennedy's or Nelson near the main station. Depends what you are after really!
