While I agree about the lack of trophy, statistically from a league position the last ten or so years were better than the mid 40-late 50's, the 70's and the 90's. BUT, and I think this is the real issue, we do not consider ourselves contenders anymore and we are settling for second best which has never been the case before.....

All the seasons of the deeply unsuccessful 1970s = 10th place average position (two 4th place and one 3rd place finish included), lower still if you added the title winning season of 69-70. No worse or better than the 'successful' Kenwright years.

It's a complete fallacy - a huge confidence trick played on people open to it because they're just grateful for not seeing their team relegated.

Its been a complete failure since 95.

Moyes turned us around, from complete chumps to half a force and all for 2.5m Net Spend, imagine, just imagine if he had just a tiny bit more to work with.

He'd be laughed at for splashing out £15 million on someone like Jordan Henderson...................................................

You are forgetting that football has changed in the last 2O years. Back in the 7Os and 8Os anyone could challenge - like ipswich, derby and forest. Those days are long gone - teams cant come from nowhere to win the league anymore. As such to remain in the top ten now is so much harder. We r no longer one of the big 5. Whatever you want we will struggle to achieve unless we have a billionaire to put money into the club.

Is your 0 key broken ? :P

In my opinion, we have a good team and we only need a couple of players to challenge for a Champions League qualification place. At the moment we have a top 8 team at best, but two or three major additions to the squad would would put us right up there in my opinion.

I still haven't voted in this poll.

Seven more to make it 400 votes cast...pollsters need roughly 2000 respondents to make their judgement on the mood of an entire nation of 60 million on some issue or other. 400 for a football cub of our following is pretty robust!...after taking out the 42 votes I'm elligible to cast!!

I probably won't ever vote in it.

I don't know enough about the politics of the whole thing. And I'm not close enough to the situation to judge what's best.
It seems everyone has an opinion on here, nearly all them are slightly different so how am I meant to learn what's right?!

I can judge players and performances much easier!

So we have another rider to the statement that this is Everton's most successful period to add to the 'without a trophy' one we already have. It now stands at: 'this is Everton's most successful period without winning a trophy and since we became uncompetitive off the pitch'.

I feel we're making progress now.

Moyes wouldnt buy utter crap like that.

55m Carroll and Henderson.

Moyes would have bought Moutinho, Hazard and Defour and still had some money left over for Bill.

Oh yeah i forgot about them.

Um, Bilyaletdinov says hi, Moutinho would of been right wing, Hazard would of been injured and Defour would of been dropped for only doing 78 squat thrusts compared to Nevilles 91.
