Ferry cross the Mersey is a classic, and entwined with our city.
The other one, isnt, and is adopted by a football club.
RIP Gerry.
Utd picked it up first....I just read some crap saying that they adopted it after Hillsborough....only out by 20 odd years, but it will play well with the newbies....
I think he went abroad on holiday a few times @Eggs....Gerry Marsden was a throwback to the MerseyBeat era and sadly there are fewer and fewer survivors of those days at the Cavern. He sung about ‘never leaving this place’ and I don’t think he ever did. Sad news but fondly remembered.
Loads of clubs used to sing in the 70s. Was watching a Spurs game from that era on youtube and you could hear it.It was played at Bristol City in the mid 70's.
He was mate. The best.Seemed like a nice fella. RIP.
He lived on the Wirral but spent a lot of time over the last 20 years in Australia. For some reason they (Gerry and the Pacemakers) were still really big over there.....Gerry Marsden was a throwback to the MerseyBeat era and sadly there are fewer and fewer survivors of those days at the Cavern. He sung about ‘never leaving this place’ and I don’t think he ever did. Sad news but fondly remembered.
That's gutting about Gerry Marsden. You don't have to be a Liverpool supporter to recognise what a force for good his voice and YNWA as anthem has been for the city in the past half century or so. Take football out of it, the song has helped bring comfort to so many people in times of sadness and difficulty.
RIP.

Ok mate. Not sure if its in the 'watch classic matches again" in the Everton thread if you want to scroll through that.Do you remember the game? Just curious on watching it myself. Like watching random old games on youtube.
