Sad news, although I never liked him for inflicting that dreadful funeral dirge on the world. Largely unknown till he sang it.

Most Koppites think he wrote it, Rodgers and Hammerstein 2nd, never really made it to the Tugboats jukebox.

That's gutting about Gerry Marsden. You don't have to be a Liverpool supporter to recognise what a force for good his voice and YNWA as anthem has been for the city in the past half century or so. Take football out of it, the song has helped bring comfort to so many people in times of sadness and difficulty.

I realised that mate to be fair, but even tongue-in-cheek jokes I think are something the fella doesn't deserve. He played no part at all in the worsening of the club's relationships and was an old generation scouser of whom there aren't many left of anymore. We need more people like him to make this city a great place.

Is actually a very fair post, it's a pity it's associated with them and they do their utmost to get so much mileage from it.
