Do you mean we weren’t or we still are ?….
You were sick for quite a bit, historically what, 10 years? But all the things you say I can say about half of Eastern Europe up until (and including post, for some) the year 2000. In fact I can point it out as worse. In fact I can point it out as worse that I've lived through, and I was a kid pre-2k.

But you know, you had it the worst in the UK. You know poverty cuz you had it bad, poverty is now a hoax cuz kids don't have them iPads.

If someone keeps punching you in the face, no matter what you do for them, would you go out of your way to help them ?. What’s even worse is that the Party who they keep voting for has done sod all for them since Harold Wilson. I know because I lived there…..

Don't be daft, Pete. Minimum wage, 5 weeks guaranteed paid leave, paid maternity leave, paid paternity leave, more investment in healthcare and social housing than the Tories would ever consider.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to compare or contrast with the deprivations of Eastern Europe, the ‘sick man of Europe’ was just a title that was slung around at the time by the media and some of our ‘friends’ on the other side of the English Channel….

But you do, by saying the rest of the crap you say though?

I'm sure it was bad, but it was equally if not worse here, but I can't say "back in the day poverty was the real deal, now it's just cuz they don't get the latest trainers". Surely even you can see how daft that is?

Imagine what it was for the even more experimented on regions. Probably a reason why all of Scotland hates Thatcher and the tories, idk.

During Thatchers time and since, the Conservations polled quite well in the GE in Scotland, but were always the second highest after Labour. The Conservatives are still the second highest polled, but now after the SNP. The SNP and Labour just swapped positions……

Yeah...........

Hear they love her, you should go and say that same thing you said here to anyone on the street.

I started as an apprentice in Plessey. I ended up on the board of GPT and then Marconi. Brown introduced a 3G license auction which took £22Billion out of the U.K. Telecomms market. Europe then thought what a swiz idea and took out another £80Bn. The likes of BT and Vodaphone at the time had to pay for the licenses, which they did by cutting back on infrastructure projects and equipment, it killed the U.K. Telecomms industry and allowed Huawei to move in. I had to close sites and make tens of thousands redundant so please don’t tell me about Brown and Telecomms….
I bow to your experience on this one. What did the Conservatives say then?

Not a great deal tbh. We had previously bought a load of American Telecomms businesses and were getting them up to speed before Brown struck. Even today, some 20 odd years after he did it, the U.K. no longer has a top notch Telecomms industry in a technology sector where we could compete with anyone…I hate Brown and he got away virtually scot free….a bleeding shame for the tens of thousands in Edge Lane, Coventry, Pittsburgh, Texas, Germany, Italy and beyond….we were even looking at building a multi gazillion new plant in Coventry before he did it….

If Germany got £30 billon for their 3G auction, yet Siemens survives, what is it that Brown did wrong as Chancellor? Was support not given or was it pulled? It seemed to be a time when so much manufacturing had been moved out of Britain. And labour had sweet-talked the city - presumably for more of the same. As I recall, Cameron was still maintaining that the light touch on banking and the city was too heavy. I am not saying a focus on service industries in the UK and funding industry overseas was right. I think it was wrong. But do you really believe any Conservative government would have done more for Plessey? They certainly didn't for United Glass or Pilks, or Shotton Steel, or cotton or wool weaving, or making clothes or pottery, or making cutlery or pans, or commercial shipbuilding or mining....
