They might not have had it a year ago. It isn't ITV footage, it's internal government footage from a rehearsal press conference.

Sunak is best mates with James Forsyth, the political editor of The Spectator and husband of Allegra Stratton. Maybe Rishi smells blood and has orchestrated the leak himself...

Problem with that is thats si transparent and open. Ideally, you don't want anyone to find your fingerprints over a mess like this.

Any good advisor will have told him to stay out of it. Keep quiet and be ready to launch your bid.
He can't exactly come out and back Boris, cause you don't want to be mentioned with all of that. It would be career suicide in politics. He would be gone as well.

If you dig deeper,. Who on the front bench has actually come out and backed Boris and said he is telling the truth.
