A sturdy defence which I’m sure his wife will accept.

I think it’s pretty disgraceful and a kick in the balls to those who have followed the rules as best they could, and had their lives and businesses suffer massive upheaval, such as yourself.

Maybe some have broken rules to help a family member out, but were caught between a rock and hard place, and then felt a bit bad for breaking those rules, only to find out the the guy in charge of health, who sets those rules disregards them so he can horse his secretary.

And I totally agree with you. Those who make the rules should follow the rules.....

We’re in agreement then. I tell ya Pete, at least in the good old days, a Tory minister would have the common decency to resign when they got caught with their kecks down.

Seems like decency is increasingly hard to come by.

Not sure that has ever been true - resignation matters on a point of honour are incredibly rare, and I can’t think of one following an affair coming out. Even shagging colleagues wives and having a child with them wasn’t enough to end a political career (for anyone involved).

Mmm. I’d had it in my mind that there’d been a spate of ministers in the 80s and 90s resigning due to affairs.

But, to be fair, a quick google found the ministers and the affairs, but no resignations.

So I stand corrected, there’s never been any decency in politics.

Carrington resigning over the invasion of the Falklands is the only one I can think of in my lifetime.

Mellor? Yeo? 2 that spring to mind. May have been other stuff going on.

I’m not sure the focus is on the right rules ‘tho. It shouldn’t even be up for debate.

Surely the starting point is that Hancock is just an employee, married bloke gropes co-worker in the office. I’m not sure there are many businesses where the terms of employment wouldn’t deem that gross misconduct = sack.

The office must have a Covid Risk Assessment which will stipulate all control measures including social distancing measures, to be adopted by all employees.

A breach of an employer’s Heath and Safety rules is gross misconduct = sack.

The rest is deflection.

both of them only went after grimly clinging for a while, not on the news breaking (indeed Wikipedia says Mellor didn’t resign over the affair at all, it was some financial stuff)
They were forced out I guess which doesn’t happen now so much. I reckon a lot has to do with the hyperactive news cycles we have now. Think it was Mandleson or Campbell who said something along the lines of ‘if you’re still in the news in a week it’s time to go’ Can’t see many events where that would be the case.
