I presume that means failures attract failures. :)

Pretty much mate !
Mind you, though he failed as a chancellor, Osborne ain't thick.

Anyway ...

Many, many moons ago I spent a very small bit of time in the company of John Major.

I had preconceptions about him which I had to throw away because, despite our political differences, I left thinking he was a decent, honest bloke, which is more than I can say for a fair few Labour politicians I've met !

Heseltine is another one who, though his politics are far removed from most of us who frequent GOT, is a much more sincere person than a few union bosses who support the Labour party are.

In the tribal world of politics, it's easy to overlook that there are decent people on the other side of the argument, and some of our neighbours, whose politics we share, are complete sh one t's.

But Edwina Currie, and if you can cast your mind back, Asil Nadir.

I posted this a few days ago. Quite possibly the lowest thing they've done in the last 7 years. The justification for it really is something from the dark ages. I really don't understand what goes through their minds. I've actually written to my MP about it. Will post the response if it says anything worthwhile.

Only just seen that. It reads like something from Newsthump. That truly is the work of nasty scum.

Theresa May furious about Easter Eggs while visiting country where blasphemers are beheaded

Theresa May has spoken of her outrage that the word ‘Easter’ has been removed from posters for an Easter Egg Hunt while taking time out from a busy trip getting chummy with people who behead people found guilty of blasphemy.

While defending ties with Saudi Arabia that she claims are “important for our security and our prosperity”, the prime minister also found time to criticise Cadbury for not using ‘Easter’ as every other word on all their promotional material at this time of year.

She told reporters, “Easter is an incredibly important issue for my government, and will speak out whenever it is threatened – especially if it means you will talk about this and not the other things we are currently doing.

“But beheading people because of what they say in private is not really something for us to comment on, obviously.”

A spokesperson for the government sought to clarify the official position.

They told us, “It’s a pretty simple equation – if you spend billions of pounds buying weapons from us, then you can chop off as many people’s heads as you feel you need to. More power to your elbow, in fact.

“But, if your business is sold to an American firm and you end up paying us less money through your taxes, then we’ll publicly chastise you over your choice of poster design for any children’s event you choose to organise.

“I think that’s pretty clear, don’t you?”

Beyond parody, can't ever recall a more ludicrous post. Brain-dead doesn't come near to describing it. The idea that we can sell weapons to other countries with a clause saying that we can control how they use them is bonkers. Try telling the many thousands of people in the arms industry that they will be on the dole because a tiny number of pacifists can't sleep at night. Suggest a good slug of whisky.

TBH I would have thought the thousands of people in the arms industry are much more likely to be put on the dole because of the antics of their bosses and their own Government, rather than because of a tiny number of pacifists. That is of course something they share with soldiers, airmen and matelots, who have all been shown the door in their thousands by people who are much more patriotic than that Corbyn.

Firstly, on 'Easter-eggsgate', she was asked a question and she responded to it. A brief answer that took a few seconds out of her day and has been manipulated!!!!

And the UK has had a long standing, trading relationship with Saudi Arabia since 1915. That's not really a Tory only issue is it!?

It was Tony Blair and Labour that intervened into a criminal investigation into a previous arms deals with Saudi Arabia, as it was 'not in the public interest'...

"However, Lord Goldsmith consulted the prime minister, the defence secretary, foreign secretary, and the intelligence services, and they decided that "the wider public interest" "outweighed the need to maintain the rule of law". Mr Blair said it would be bad for Britain's security if the SFO was allowed to go ahead, according to the statement made in the Lords by Lord Goldsmith. The statement did not elaborate on the nature of the threat.

BAE claimed that it was about to lose out on a third phase of the Al-Yamamah deal, in which the Saudis would buy 72 Typhoon aircraft in a deal worth £6bn. The Saudis had also hinted that they would do a deal with the French instead if the inquiry pushed ahead. A 10-day ultimatum was reportedly issued by the Saudis earlier this month."
