Current Affairs The Conservative Party

Well if that’s the case, if you are ever in the situation, vote against him. Btw pretty much everyone has a stance not just genocidial dictators, the problem is that MPs tend to forget theirs once they are in office.
Loads of politicians have stances and stick to them, Corbyn being a good example. Let's not pretend that's the reason you like him. You like him because, for some reason, his career driven politics which suit the few resonates with you.

I'd actually love it if Rees Mogg became leader of the Tories. Just imagine a leadership battle between him and Gove.

At the next election the Tories would be routed and out of contention for power for a generation!

He is not the right person to lead the Conservative party. While his beliefs and communication hit it off with many people, the left would demonise him unmercifully because of his appearance and accent. Unfair but that’s what would happen.......

I don't know where you get the idea that his beliefs and communication are popular with a large number of people? His views on abortion alone would be hammered as they are against probably 90% of the public.

Personally I utterly despise the man and would go as close as I could ever to using the word hate for someone I've never met! He's exactly the sort of 'presumed entitlement' Tory that harks back to empire and class distinctions in this country. It goes without saying as well that his views on unionism also don't exactly sit well with me!

To be honest I'm just waiting for the scandal* of him, a Thai Lady Boy and a tube of tennis balls to hit the tabloids the second he announced his candidacy!

*please note I have no evidence of such a scandal and this comment should not be taken seriously. It is meant in jest albeit a video from @Bungle does have a Tory mp in it but the face was hidden by a chicken

Ahh thanks for clearing that up for me. Sod you poor people.

This is the man who claims that the sharp rise in food bank use under the Tories is down to them being advertised better and has nothing to do with living standards and inequality. Sod you poor people, indeed.
Yeah I’ll remind you that I’m not actually him. Like I said in a previous post, it’s a live by the sword, die by the sword attitude he has. There are opinions he has which are ‘out there’ but he sticks by them, regardless of flak. He didn’t flop and issue some unmeant apology which we all to often see.

Interestingly enough it seems that no MP actually took that comment about food banks as a spark to actually start a debate on the subject (or a more intensive one at least) which sort of filters back to the point of MP’s being utterly faceless. You would of though somebody would have gone for the jugular there, but nope, they weren’t told to so didn’t.

It’s interesting that you mention Corbyn as an MP with a stance and that certainly is true. Is it therefore not slightly telling that in the previous few years that two perma-backbenchers have become eminently more visible by simply having clearly defined stances?

Alternatively, you could argue that actually getting stuff done usually requires compromise and cooperation. It's much easier to be an outlier when your words seldom need to progress beyond words.

Of course, if there were a room of individuals all pulling in their own way then nothing would be done ever. Maybe I’m just disillusioned.

TBH in British political history most mistakes happen when Parliament is dominated by one party, rather than when there is a weak or minority Government which has to use compromise and negotiation to get its business done.

So everyone should be quite happy at the moment then......

No matter the argument put to the contrary. That isn't a positive trait, it shows someone who cannot see past themselves or their position. The ability to change your opinion is a positive not a negative trait.

I’m not saying that it’s a negative trait. I’m saying I don’t want politicians who change their positions based on the way the wind is blowing. I’d rather vote for someone who actually stands for something rather than what they think they should do, even if it’s outside of their comfort zone. Like Tim Farrons grandstanding about being okay with gay sex when it was clearly at odds with his own beliefs. That’s an example of total nonsense where no opinion change has actually happened, he’s just said it to get votes.
