Government removes bursary from nursing students.

Government realises they don't have enough nurses.

Government announces they will have 50000 more nurses in election pledge.

Government plan to recruit necessary nurses is to bring back bursary they scrapped in 2017 excluding the cost of tuition fees.

Cycle usage accounts for something like 1% of road usage in the UK Bruce.

That figure has fallen dramatically since the 40's, 50's and 60's.

Is it time we reconsidered cycle lanes?

I think I'm right in saying that expenditure on cycling infrastructure comes to around £1 per head per year, versus around £80 per head per year for road expenditure.

I wonder if that bursary is equivalent to the wages of nurses they would have to hire to get the hours nursing students are required to put in on wards, or if they still get staffing on the cheap?

I think I'm right in saying that expenditure on cycling infrastructure comes to around £1 per head per year, versus around £80 per head per year for road expenditure.

And it keeps you fit and healthy (provided there are safe spaces) and that in turn provides savings for the NHS in terms of overall health, it saves on cost of funded schemes for kids to get to schools.

My point was more to the effect that these things have value over and above purely usage and finance.

Almost like a simple solution would be to recruit nurses whose skills are recognised by the NHS and who are freely entitled to work in the UK that have been trained elsewhere...

That (accepting overseas accreditation) is a major problem. A Colombian friend of ours trained as a doctor in Russia but wasn't accepted here and was told he'd have to start from scratch. He has a family, so works in sales instead. Seems a waste.

I see Britain First are joining Tommy Robinson and Katie Hopkins in endorsing Johnson and telling their followers to join the Conservative Party.

Johnson has deliberately and knowingly courted these people and their ilk and is, frankly, as bad as them.

As they say in Germany, if there is a Nazi at the table and 10 people sat there speaking to it, you have 11 Nazis at the table.

Yep. One of the reasons the tories won was that they cleaned up the racist vote.
Is there not a saying that ‘what happens in the US happens in the UK 3 days later?’ In this case it has happened 3 years later but same rule applies.
