Anuerin Bevin's conclusion on that shower was spot on. In July 1948 he coined his famous phrase. Full quote...

"[re the depression era] That is why no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party that inflicted those bitter experiences on me. So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin. They condemned millions of first-class people to semi-starvation. Now the Tories are pouring out money in propaganda of all sorts and are hoping by this organised sustained mass suggestion to eradicate from our minds all memory of what we went through. But, I warn you young men and women, do not listen to what they are saying now....I warn you they have not changed, or if they have they are slightly worse than they were."

Very appropriate now that the baton has been handed on to the next Old Etonian and the blitz on British social and economic life he and his controllers will usher in post-Brexit is on the horizon.

Unfortunately instead of Nye Bevan we have Jeremy Corbyn!! I'd rather have Neil Kinnock back and that's saying something!

Be careful what you wish for.........son of Kinnock has undermined Corbyn on a number of issues.....and voted for Owen Smith (who????) in the Labour leader elections. Do you think it's JC's beliefs and ideas or is it his perceived "weakness" as a leader which puts people off voting for labour? I mean, look at Boris Bluster....all mouth, soundbites, and little else, and yet folk excuse his appalling views because "well that's Boris isn't it? " I think the media have a lot to answer for.

I'm all for free press and reporting, not so keen opinion peddling! However, people are free to pay and read whatever, so it's more of reflection of collective of people obsessed with personality politics rather than substance. With smidgens of partisan playing the pied pipers it's worrying how many will dance the establishment tune...

The "he is a weak leader" one really yanks my chain, as if leadership = going along with what everyone else does and not stepping out of line.

When she runs out of soundbites she's clueless.
Never really heard much from her before mate, but that was fairly shocking, maybe because they're used to not being questioned by the media now, she had nowhere to turn whenever the spin was questioned. Good to see someone not just letting her peddle cliché :)

Eddie Mair should have been given a top job on the BBC. Think he was deemed to have gone to hard at Johnson back in 2013 and was never given the the same prominence as the likes of Marr, Robinson, Humphrys et al. He has a very commanding interview technique

The new communities secretary's funding pledge to help councils step up Brexit preparations has been branded an "insult".
Robert Jenrick committed £20 million to be shared between all 353 English councils while calling for them to appoint a Brexit lead to ensure they are ready to leave by the Halloween deadline.

But, despite the sum being billed as "new", the department conceded that the full amount had already been proposed in previous announcements.

Jenrick, who was appointed by Boris Johnson in his cabinet reshuffle, said it was right to "intensify preparations" so councils can be prepared to leave by October 31 "whatever the circumstances".

Labour MP Jess Phillips criticised the government for spending £138 million on the "no-deal propaganda" of a public information campaign and a fraction on councils' preparations for the "calamity".

"The idea that £20 million across the 353 main councils of England is enough to prepare is an insult to our intelligence and to the hard work of public servants struggling with the consequences of the government's decision to force a vicious Brexit on us," she said.

Councils across the country welcomed the funding but highlighted the shortfall they are already facing.

Its astonishing isnt it? No matter what side she is on, the rank incompetence is staggering. They wer'nt even difficult questions, she dug the hole herself.
It's the arrogance of power.

They think we all have our memories wiped clean and dont remember how they are a duplicitous bunch of hypocrites...and tbf I can see why they feel at ease thinking that: because, apart from people like Eddie Mair and Jon Snow and a couple of others in the news media who remind us by pulling them up on their records, the rest of the media are happy to accommodate them in their bare faced cheek.

I don't know; Andrew Neil skewered Boris Johnson pretty well a week or so ago.
