By banning it you're just going to make it all the more attractive to youngsters because now it's dangerous and cool because you have to subvert the law to do it

It's not straight prohibition, though. Current smokers will still be able to buy tobacco.
Not sure why people are claiming this is a nanny state imposing a ban? That's literally the role of government... To govern. They introduce/repeal laws at will.
