Bankrupt council.
£300million of budget to be slashed over coming years.

PLUS

21% council tax increase across the city. Street lights turned off, rubbish collection reduced again, even lesser capacity to chase fly tipping...

Birmingham.

Brum will only be the first, my initial read of the situation is that cowboys have been granted a 'do as you please' situation, and now they've opted out and the pigeons have come home to roost. Austerity britain coupled with wanton mismanagement has driven standards of living into the gutter and lower.
Sooner Scotland and Wales can opt out of the union the better for them, join forces, join the EU and get trumps wall builders in to fence little england into it's own back yard. Thanks tories, but no thanks.

I forget where the pension conversation was had, but...

In 1951, the UK population was 50 million with an employment rate of 70.4%. There were 35.2 million workers who were supporting 4.5 million pensioners, or 7.8 workers for every pensioner.

Today, the UK’s population is more than 67 million, which includes 33.17 million workers and 12.8 million pensioners. This means that every pensioner is being “supported” by just 2.6 workers.
The crux of the issue, all of which makes it especially ironic that the parasitic pensioners are often most opposed to migrants who actually pay their pension.

Oh, wow! "parasitic pensioners"...

What a lazy, ignorant and sweeping statement that is. Not every future pensioner and/or retiree can directly fund or influence their own retirement... but many individuals can.

Some pay their National Insurance contributions for a lifetime. Others pay into company based pension schemes; such as the relatively recent auto-enrollment scheme. They can save their own money and they can choose their own private investments. Some have been doing so for many years. Some pensioners-to-be pay their own way, and in doing so, they free up public money for those who need it more. I'm not sure I'd call those who favor personal responsibility as 'parasites'.

Who are these migrants that will pay for my, and others pension and retirement funds in the future? I'd like to know so I can save less and spend more in the next few years... to hell with personal responsibility when I can sponge of others.

You do know @Bruce Wayne has a literal ton of statistics demonstrating the tax contribution of non-uk citizens, particularly that it is a net contribution?

If you ever use any public service I hope you tip.

Have said this before on here, but central government really needs to legislate over that equal pay thing and quickly.

Services and jobs cannot suffer now for such an arbitrary decision made years after the fact, based almost totally on someones conception of what job was equivalent to what other job and with no idea of how it would ever be delivered.

People paid differently to do the same job? That absolutely should be an equal pay issue. People paid differently to do different jobs? That is much less of one.
