I hate to say it, but I agree to an extent. The wrong people get in to politics to enrich themselves and their mates because they haven't the ability to do it via professional merit.

I also believe it's one of the many reasons why public sector projects often go so badly. They're being directed by ministers who get absolutely rinsed by experienced people in the industry.
Nah I don’t think so tbh. All part of the same machine. Most the Tory MPs seem to have plenty of side projects on the go and MPs tend to become very wealthy regardless once they leave politics. Plenty of contacts.

They’re hardly going to be worried about paying next months rent anyways. If someone has a desire to change or run the country, for better or for worse, you would hope their main motivation was not how much money they can earn along the way. It’s never going to be enough for most.

I think it’s all too far gone for that now anyway, so I agree in some ways.

Too many career politicians.

A lot of them are pretty well off before going into politics.

Then perhaps having at least some rich MP's is a good thing? If money isn't their primary motivation, they are there to do what they believe is for the greater good, and not for personal financial gain.

At the opposite end, you have others who are elected into parliament, and who are punching above their weight. They would never get a job involving and requiring such serious responsibility, talent and decision making in the private sector...

I highly doubt that all MP's become rich after leaving politics. The high profile, frontbenchers... perhaps. What about the others? The non-entities? I would think that backbenchers would worry about paying the bills. Why give up a potentially well paid and stable job, to campaign for election to a poorly paid job of significant responsibility, when in 5 years time, you could be voted out, and for reasons beyond your control. Can such people even get a mortgage with such an unstable career choice? It doesn't sound either stable or desirable to me.

When standing for election, perhaps only the rich and the poor can afford to take such risks; when they have, for different reasons, nothing to lose?

Greedy barstewards getting even richer? Never!

Good thinking. It’s well known that rich people don’t care about money and are less likely to be corrupt.

When they get beat in the GE hopefully .
There is going to be a Hugh split in the direction that the tories are going to go in between the so called traditional tories and the ones that want to drag it further right and down the Trump route , trend for that type of politics seems to be on the up across the globe, even in Europe, Holland , Sweden, Italy ect has seen the successful rise of that type of party, the tories or some of them will see it as the way to go.
Labour will have a hard job on there hands if they win an election with the state of the country and with the tory pr machine behind them. Could see them getting some traction. For a turn of direction .
Could see them gaining ground once people ,lose focus on the crap they haven't us in.
Going to be a dangerous time in politics in the next decade or so.
Fear we are seeing the opening shots in a lurch into gutter politics.

I'd say the opening shots were fired some time ago, otherwise agree with you 100%.

Getting more vocal Anderson ect
It's every other week now it's seems.
They are not backing off from there statements which they would have done previously.
Depending on who they choose as their next leader, will dictate UK politics for a generation. It’s very scary times.
At a guess it will end up being Mourdant vs Braverman in a race to the bottom.

The general shift to the right across the entire world is troubling

The only hope is that the Generation Z folks can start turning things in the other direction so that it balances out a bit
