That was fair enough while the LP were more or less the LP - committed to progressive policies by and large. But now they are not, so that's not a reasonable strategy anymore.

The thing is though that the Starmer LP are offering nothing like an alternative.
On the economy, Reeves is being praised by Tory chancellors of the past for the stall she's setting out. The Starmer LP are offering no tax rises and very little indication they'll go beyond a pathetic windfall tax on the likes of Starbucks and Amazon that'll bring in a puny mount of cash. They have the same attitude to public spending as the Thatcherites: they look to increased production and profits in industry and the trickle down effect into higher wages. There's to be no intervention. Worse than that, de-regulation is set to accelerate.
Their attitude to migration is to talk tougher on hitting the victims than the Tories do...it''s just that it's masked in talk of hitting criminal gangs that traffic them. But the effect is to limit drastically migration for a lot of people who are in need of a new way of life and safety for their families. Where's their humanity?
On defence: they want more GDP going toward it than the Tories. FFS, we could solve a lot of this country's problems by scrapping Trident and spending it on social services.
How much more do you have to be told by them about what they intend to do before you wake up to them?
So lets let the Tories have another 5 years?

The next election there'll be a socialist alternative in every constituency.
Starmer wont be on my ballot, so im ok.
And this socialist mecca you keep dreaming off isnt happening Dave.
I think my ideal scenario is that Starmer's first term goes as well as can be expected with the country currently on its knees. Some semblance of competence is restored to government and as Labour isn't ideologically opposed to working with the EU we can finally implement some sensible solutions to the staggeringly obvious causes to the economy's ills without half the governing party howling about betrayal.
After that, let's let his 2nd election result in a decent win but with a significantly smaller majority. Then perhaps a strong challenger from the Left can win the leadership and use that majority to be a bit bolder and riskier. Make some real change for good for once.
But I guess we can go with Dave's plan of sitting around with our thumbs up our proverbials, keep letting the Tories in and just hoping that something might improve one day.

If we get the labour party in it's current state we will be ruled by an even worse tory party in five years time.

Steady strong improvement of the economy and the Country and moving the tax burden upwards to pay for it.
There's nothing we can do.
It's up to the labour party to look towards the states and realise they can't stay in power in their current form.
They're only winning this next election because of how disastrous the tories have been.
In five years time, people will forget that, it will be labours record on trial and people will want to see something for it, otherwise the right wing cranks screaming about trans people and immigrants will take power once again.
