I fear for the world my kids will inherit (12 & 9 yo) - me and the missus are doing ok, so hopefully they wont be the worst affected, but it must be terrifying for some parents right now.

Aye, got a couple of mates on the breadline and they're really struggling.

Was talking to my mom about the country today and comparing it to the 80s / 90s when I was a kid. My Dad lost his job and then couldn't work on health grounds (not that there was much) and we were really poor. My Mom worked wonders budgeting and managing the household finances. We both agreed that life would probably be much tougher today if in the equivalent situation. So yeah, must be bloody horrible and stressful.

That's a bit absurd. German, and therefore EU, fiscal policy at the time was not dissimilar. You could argue that austerity wasn't the right approach, but to suggest it was a deliberate attempt to kill lots of people is ridiculous.
