And of the 20000 they need to recruit by next month, they have only managed to recruit around 16000.
And of the 16000 recruited 3500 have already left.

it is a lot more than that overall - the 3500 are just the wastage from the new joiners, the rest were meant to replace the people who are due for retirement and who have mostly all seen sense and escaped while they can

Yes that’s just people who have joined as new starters. The number is a lot higher. Resignations are up 40% and higher in some places.
Last year the Met lost nearly 300 officers alone in one month.

Ha no idea. Seems a lot of them have just had enough. Poor pay and conditions being the main factor. That’s what most of them have said anyway.

Police officers have had one above inflation (by 1%) pay rise since 2010, and their pensions have been quite markedly scaled back from retire-after-30 years (with 2/3 pension) to retire after more than that with considerably less.

Amazingly many of them voted Tory in 2019.

The big problem with this piece is that the 2010-2015 lot were as big a shambles as the Johnson / Truss mob were.

At least with Sunak there are several indications (though nowhere near enough) that they realise something is wrong
And yet the disastrous bill to rush through the removal of any EU-origin laws is continuing because Sunak is beholden to the Eurosceptic nutjobs in his party. It's another bullet to the head that the government is voluntarily administering.

It's clear that they are already on this path but the timing given what has just happened in Warrington is soulless.

He does come across as though someone had used a lab to create/concoct the most charmless, grotesque, vile human possible. Presumably the same lab that gave the world Suella Braverman.

Well guess that what populism does folks.

He's promoted within 48 hours of truss' comeback. Coincidence? it's the tories distancing themselves from the cyanide budget delivered by her and kwarteng to shift focus and buy em time. He's a dancing bear on a hot floor, he'll tire and they'll move him on 'in light of recent developments and for the integrity of the investigation/s he's felt now is right to step back to spend some more time with his pals in the bnp...' etc...

Perhaps, though I think he is much less beholden to them than Truss was and is much more likely to take them on when / if he has a new deal with the EU (over NI and the rest).
