Has to be a reward for backing him otherwise why take such a risky move putting her back in. Also think judging by past comments, he has a similar thought to her on immigration too

At least the new PM didn’t keep us waiting long for his first act of poor judgement.

Not sure it is - she was largely responsible for killing off Johnson's attempt at the leadership (so there is a debt he has to be seen to repay), it allows him to claim that he is appointing people from all wings of the party (and she is the least threatening person to him on the right - prominent but no real mass of hangers-on) and putting her in the Home Office guarantees that either she or the department will mess something up so badly that she can be correctly made to resign (as even Truss found out).

Agree, he needs some of the Johnson crew onboard but her? After what she's done and said? Shows Sunak's stance on immigration too.

sadly, I think immigration will be so low on his list right now that he is happy for people to be treated like aliens of state
