Problem is, Johnson (classics), Kwarteng (classics) and Truss (ppe) were academically good enough to go to Oxbridge. But this doesn't equate to being good in public office. So many other factors at play. I've known several people who have firsts from those uni's and I wouldn't want them in my Sunday night quiz team, let alone run the country.
Once worked with a guy who had more degrees than a thermometer.

Everything he touched turned to rat shiz. Nobody wanted to work with him, he was so utterly thick when it came to real life work stuff.

He was quickly promoted from the coal face and is probably the CEO of some company right now, making mega bucks, but still as criminally stupid.

There’s lots of them around. Competent organisations survive despite them, because the real brains know a stupid idea when it cascades down and can usually redirect the outcomes, whilst still presenting the strategy as a brainwave.

It looks like our lovestruck Tory duo circumvented or overruled all the alarm systems, coz they knew better.

IMF basically pissing all over this mini budget is a stark reminder how much of a mess up this is. Imagine if they refuse to take the advice onboard.
Only political policy move I can see for this lot and it's austerity far more severe than Osborne did. Osborne just cut back on the speed of increase in spend.

This lot will want to carve out major chunks of spend. The big area is NHS.

So a move to US model. Utilitarian healthcare as a minimum out of taxation. Enhanced healthcare via private companies.

The other two options is reverse mini budget or increase taxes, not going to happen.

Sadly this is probably the way it will go. Carve up the NHS is about the only way left to be more Thatcher than Thatcher herself.

The fat cats will be salivating at the prospect.

We're already there imo, but rather than money being the issue it's time. With waiting lists at such obscene levels, if you have the money to go private then that's the only way you'll get timely treatment.

Indeed. However, if there is a plan for November it's cuts to public service spending, NHS being the biggest. Can't see uturn be it the most sensible option.

What would it take to force an early election?
Said before. Can't imagine Labour want an election just yet. Let the strikes play out, or at least see what the nurses are up to. Then press the issue.
When the nurses decide it is strike time, then we might see something.
Only problem for Starmer is, he needs to have a solution for that.

Either that or they continue to load it onto the credit card and then it's someone else's problem down the road.
It will be cuts to service's, transport, freeze on pay NHS and civil service. Same old rubbish they have served up for the last few decades, wrapped up in its the cost of living, instead of covid, Ukraine, banking crash , ect
Rich get richer poor get poorer.
They are like a broken record.

I’m starting to believe this was all deliberate. I smell a rat.

Said before that I almost called it gross incompetence, that cannot be right as not even a criminally stupid person wouldn't have foreseen the consequence, so they have released the plan they set out to achieve.

Boris must be loving this as instantly he has moved down one place from the top of the worst PMs in history.

In a functional system there would be a thorough investigation into this.

It is enough to see a push for a new standard, Know Your Government (KYG) standard added to the process of government, designed to protect the population against ministerial fraud and corruption.
