I think the only reason that Labour are ahead in the polls is that the Con party is making such a piss poor job of ruunning the country, not because of any stunning policies/ideas they have put forward themselves. The path of least resistance is seldom the best or wisest choice.Labour are about 15 points clear in the polls? That seems marginally better than the thumping defeat Labour experienced when they had the kind of leader who touted the ideas in that article.
Just reversing a lot of what the Tories have done would be a good start. No need for anything too radical.I think the only reason that Labour are ahead in the polls is that the Con party is making such a piss poor job of ruunning the country, not because of any stunning policies/ideas they have put forward themselves. For me, what Gilbert is saying is that the country needs radical ideas because of the level of damage that has been inflicted by the parasites who are in power atm, and that if such radical ideas aren't forthcoming and nothing much changes, then people will look toward populism as a solution. The birth of new movements such as Enough is Enough and Don't Pay are proof that people want that radical change.
It is starting to look like the Cons have adopted scorched earth economic policies in order to feather their own nests when ousted and we the public are going to have to pick up the tab to the tune of 150 bil.
I can't remember which film it's from but a quote springs to mind : "It's just a giant [Poor language removed] sandwich.............and we're all gonna have to take a bite"
Dare we mention the F word?….we now have an extreme right wing Government. Labour needs to be emphasising;
EXTREME RIGHT WING GOVERNMENT.
Start with half a loaf. So much better than no loaf at all...Just reversing a lot of what the Tories have done would be a good start. No need for anything too radical.
I continue to be intrigued by the idea that print media holds any real sway over the electorate.
According to figures released on 20 September 2022 by pressgazette.co.uk, the Daily Mail has an average daily circulation of 840,640 copies. The Daily Express fares significantly worse at 188,490.
The combined daily circulation of both these bastions of right-wing politics is a little short of 1.03 million. The population of the UK is currently estimated as being around 68.4 million.
One in every 66.4 people in the UK read the Mail or the Express. Even if the ENTIRE readership fell for the lines fed to them about Kwarteng's budget, they are still a tiny proportion of the electorate.
Kwarteng's budget is disgraceful. A portion of the membership is furious about it, and it isn't just the portion that voted for Sunak instead of Truss. I'm still astonished that she won the leadership ballot, and early signs are that this is going to cause civil war in the Conservative party.
But will they?Just reversing a lot of what the Tories have done would be a good start. No need for anything too radical.
We are the worst idlers in the world, apparently.Has she done three working days yet ? Takes some beating this like.
Dare we mention the F word?
Aye but you’re including people who can’t vote as a percentage of the population and also not including secondary readers, as well as people who may simply (or unconsciously) glance over the headlines whilst paying for fuel in their car,I continue to be intrigued by the idea that print media holds any real sway over the electorate.

….the Scottish Nationalist MP mentioned it some months ago. Interesting the newly elected right wing Italian PM sees herself in the same company as Truss.
