The Chelsea Thread

He is just not "one of the lads". He uses long words and relies on his intelligence. He probably (shock horror) reads books.
He frightens folk because he is different so he his quickly ridiculed.
He won't get time to succeed simply because the mob have spoken. I see Warnock is still in work. Depressing.
I agree with that, but equally he is a project manager, tied to the corporate brand, American-style. Club football is about passion and emotion as well. I don't see any with him.

He is different but that doesn't mean he is wrong. He is young with limited experience brought in quickly and conveniently from within the same ownership. The club is run like a bank with a bloated and unhappy squad. We all know this and yet we expect him to turn it around immediately using the same tried tested traditional methods that we have seen fail before. Instead, for trying something different, he is mocked.

I think he is mocked for his Steve Job's approach to football not the fact that he is trying new things, it's all buzzwords and polo neck sweaters.

Estevao is electric and a good little player.

Not sure what's up with Palmer though, looked a shadow of himself.

Other than that, for all their money they're not very good at all.

I’m late 30’s so Chelsea have always been a top table side in my time watching football

They were mostly a good cup team who normally finished in the top half when I started watching and were becoming a side that looked like they’d be in and around the top 4 even before the money in fairness to them

Abramovich supposedly attended one of their champions league games and that motivated him to buy them

Without his money I doubt they would have won as much as they have, but they would have been a side in the mix I think who might just lack that extra bit to really kick on, which the money allowed them to acquire
I'm early 50s and Chelsea are a yo-yo club to me that had periods of moderate success: a sort of London Manchester City who liked to take the odd excursion to the second division.

The late 1990s was the first time in 25 years that Chelsea were genuinely a top six side. They had a very brief spell in the mid-80s as a flakey contender, but then so did West Ham. The early 70s was their glory period - and it was brief.

Nah, Chelsea are the original plastic club, built on corruption. I'll never recognise them as a club of our stature.

I'm definitely not convinced on Rosenior as a manager at the very top level but he needs to be given at least a full season to see how things turn out.

Chelsea's problem is their recruitment model. Its astonishing to think they have a squad worth over a billion and dont have a goalkeeper or centre halves that would get a game at other top half teams.

There's nothing wrong with mainly favouring younger players for your big signings. But you need experience and quality in goal and in defence. If they did nothing this summer other than sign 2 good and experienced centre halves and a good goalkeeper, the quality of their squad would go up enormously.

Glenn hoddle signing gullit then zola and others changed their trajectory as yo yo also rans who had a purple patch late 60s early 70s to today's chelsea. That as well as the bright lights of London attracted the corrupt oligarch.

The LinkedIn Liam nickname someone has given him is going to stick because it will be fun to say on work sites by fellas who scratch their arse and sniff.

Their problems are deep. The signings don't look that good. Emperors New Clothes for the majority of them and this is the risk with playing real life FM hunting wunderkind and banking everything on potential.

There's a lesson to be learned about the need for a balanced squad and some mixture to the profile of signings here.

So the fine was dished out during last season? How has it gone this long before anyone has got wind of the amount?
I’m not sure that is accurate.

I thought the fine was ratified in November 2025 and announced in March 2026 so would fall into the 25/26 accounts which will be released by March 27.

However, their accounts do include a £6m adjustment(benefit) relating to the previous year’s hotel sale to themselves.

I think it relates to fees that they would have had to pay if sold on the open market even though they sold it to themselves.

That’s why I thought but the bbc are fairly clear in that post
