As someone who voted to remain I still come on this thread to read people's thoughts, hopes and predictions, l enjoyed Fred55's post on the CAP but to me that post is complete gibberish could you say it so thickies like me can understand please.
Right I have woke up now so sorry my i pad spell checker was not to your satisfaction, as you take the stance of most remainers sore losers ...
The UK industires are now not manufacturers on a massive scale anymore the car plants are just assembly lines with parts coming in from all over the world - with coronavirus it is now proved most countries are totally indebted to China for parts of many things in production - One UK firm on TV as stated that if it gets bad their engineering firm will start to make the part they need from China to get their product out there .....
As for Turkey did not dictate anything in the EU - well the EU were begging them to close the borders into southern Europe - Turkey then stated they still wanted the EU subsidy -
My point is leaving the EU, and becoming an individual self governing country is now the way forwards, but after all the pages on here really looks like the reliability on China Worldwide is a massive denominator in any case, and a self governing country needs to become independent of its governing powers it is going to take a lifetime a Generation as the British empire ended maybe the China bubble will end one day - who knows - the fact the EU will have its own army soon they can maybe stop Turkey calling the tunes?
Its complicated, but one virus serious I might add, has set the stock market crashing all over the world.....atm being in the EU or out of it leaves lots of countries in trouble.

Where did you copy and paste that from?

You those are people you're talking about in Turkey, right? Human beings fleeing from war.

I kinda agree with him, but the farmers and fishermen that voted for this perhaps won't be best pleased.
In fairness it's a bit of a nothing article with absolutely zero substance to it. It's irrelevant to what is happening at the moment and hopefully none of our farmers or fishermen will lose any sleep over it, and see it for what it is. The ravings of a total weirdo boffin.

Firstly let's look at the contents. How on earth can you compare an island state like Singapore with the UK?. It is a fraction of the size, less than 10% of the population, zero farmland and little fishing grounds. There is no reason whatsoever to assume what works for Singapore can work for the UK too.

Moreover, Britain has the best fishing grounds in Europe and some of the best worldwide. We also have some of the best farmland and weather for farming. UK produce is amongst the finest in the world. Why on earth would you even think of giving that up. It's like having gold and diamond reserves and not using them.

In addition, the government has completely removed themselves from the leaked emails saying that they were his personal opinions and not in line with any government policy.

Secondly let's look at the credentials of this certain Mr Leunig, not somebody completely alien to crackpot views sadly. There was the one about ignoring the North of England completely and investing all of our time and infrastructure on expanding the South East, because that was where people wanted to live. Seriously. And the other one about converting one carriage on all of our trains to standing only, and just charge a £1 fare, so that people like him could get seats in the normal carriages. FFS why not make people just sit on top of the trains like they do in India.

This guy is just a crank and I've no idea why he is being given such a high profile job advising the government. He is only on secondment from the LSE so he is probably one of Cummings's weirdo's. He certainly fits the bill.

The issue here Bruce, is that I imagine you would normally not give this guy the time of day, but because this particular issue fits with your agenda of discrediting everything Brexit, you decided to post it anyway, notwithstanding the fact that it has zero substance to it.

Hey I like that train idea

"We can do what we want without Brussels telling us what to do".

"What did Brussels stop you from doing?"

"Oh, lots of things"

"Can you name any"

"I don't want to, but there's lots of them"

An actual conversation I had with a woman who'd voted to leave.
Yep, sums it up.

The bloke is a senior advisor to the new Chancellor, it’s ridiculous to suggest that the leaked emails should have just been brushed under the carpet given the previous musings on this subject of one of the few economists who backed Brexit i.e. Minford.

In terms of the fiscal importance of both industries he’s actually right btw.

True this.

Economically, they're not important, but being able to supply a large part of your own food makes political and ( quite often ) ecological sense. To be fair to him, though, on the face of it, his email seems barmy, he's probably been encouraged to "think outside the box".

There's plainly room for a programme which is a cross of Yes Minister and The Office with Leunig starring as himself.

Any sources for statement the UK has the best fishing grounds in Europe/worldwide? And same for farmland?

NEWSFLASH

Official docs from the government show a potential, and quantifiable, BENEFIT of Brexit.

Just released the trading papers for a possible US trade deal could see a boost to GDP of between

0.07% and 0.16% over a 15 year period.

But that assumes tariffs are lifted completely (which goes beyond the state's objectives of the trading documents).

And it doesn't take account of any knock on effects with other trade deals.

But it's a start.
