The BBC and MOTD is as laughable as ever

This Beckford goal - am I alone in thinking it was great perseverence from the player but wasn't that spectacular?

The Keystone Cops defending on the half way line with 4 Chelsea players bumping into each other and the ridiculous decision of Cech to stay on his line until Beckford was in the box stuck out as much as the effort of Beckford himself.

That's not to excuse Lineker et al's ignoring of the goal, btw.

This.

Goal of the season my arse. Onuah did a better one against them at the bridge.

Good goal though

Hansen is a complete fraud. I've watched matches on SKY earlier in the day and then on MOTD highlights I've heard him repeat word for word the analysis of the SKY Sports pundits.

I've listened to his drivel during live games for years and he hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. A superlative is usually used where analysis should be.

Shearer's just a thick Geordie.

completely agree!

He wouldn't have got the length of the pitch if he didn't think he could.

Anyone else on that pitch or on the bench would have held it up and waited for support. He just ran. That's what makes it such a great goal.

Direct running had the Chelsea defence on the retreat and panicking. He caused the keystone cops defending with sheer pace and drive.

It was a sensational goal and he meant every second of it. Just because he wasn't flicking it over his head and juggling it up the field seems to confuse a few FIFA-lovers on here.

Tubey nails it

You wouldn't want to say anything positive about the hired help would you?

BTW, we have this same problem in the States in "our" sports. Highlights of more popular players equals more eyeballs, which equals more money. Make no mistake, whether its the UK, USA or on the moon, sportscasts and newscasts want to make money. Objectivity has long been a distant second. The producers of these shows are judged by ratings, not by how correct their reporting is.

I don't think that's strictly true -- MOTD is an interesting case. Think of the Marshawn Lynch run from this past season -- it was played over and over again and most would have it as the play of the season despite the fact that Lynch isn't an especially big name and Seattle aren't a big team. The play was judged purely on its own merit. I'd say the second biggest highlight was the Jags endzone knockdown -- featuring probably the least popular team in the league. You don't have to go far to watch Blake Griffin highlights despite the fact he plays for the NBA equivalent of West Ham.

If MOTD ran US sports highlights you'd have never heard of Blake Griffin and never watched the Lynch touchdown run unless you watched the game live. That's the difference. While I don't doubt all journalism (not just sports) has serious problems, MOTD resides in a whole different category of head-in-the-sand nonsense.

I Don't know if it's been mentioned anywhere else on here, while MOTD yesterday enraged me at least there's someone at The Beeb who sees a bit of sense; aka Garth Crooks by putting Baines in his team of the season, and a good selection overall In my opinion, unfortunately I can't link it as my browser is defying me at present but I'm sure you'll all see it anyway.

So Beckford picks up the ball in his own area, runs 100 yards beyond roughly 10 players, and pops it into the net. Goal of the season? Not even a mention. If it was Rooney/Messi, Ronaldo, they would be replaying it forever. The BBC continues to show contempt for our great club.

Exactly what I've been saying since he scored, if Messi, Rooney etc had scored it, it would have been called the greatest goal ever by now.

Why do people still even watch MOTD?

Can't get Sky! =(

To be fair, think the show could have been extended a bit last night. I can understand why it wasn't deemed as high priority as some of the other games, but it seems to be every bloomin week!

No excuse just to skip on to the next game though, I hate that. What I hated more was that they didn't even show the very beginning of Beckfords goal. If I remember right, they showed him a good 15 yards outside his box at the start of that highlight. He was inside his box wasn't he, when he started his Weahesque gallop

Great goal, but he sure got a lot of luck (which he made!)
