The atmosphere at Goodison

Quite. Point being, if people are that exercised about it as an issue, then organise and do something about it. If not, then just chill a little.

..I always think this is a cart before the horse scenario. Give the fans hope, give the fans something they enjoy watching, give the fans signs of progression and the atmosphere at Goodison will be fine.

This. The atmosphere was often crap in the 90's because the team was terrible and it only turned up when there was something to engage with on the pitch. Be it a meaty challenge, a bit of continued attacking pressure or Gareth Farrelly smashing one in from outside the box v Coventry.

The reason why the atmosphere is terrible is due to a variety of reasons. Expensive ticket prices are one reason, but as long as there is a demand for tickets nothing is going to change. Another issue is the fact we sold huge amounts of season tickets to kids, so people don't feel comfortable starting chants and that, plus when chants are started they don't get going. When I had a season ticket in GT3 it was mainly teenagers and fellas in their 20s and 30s so the atmosphere was a bit better. There have been numerous attempts and ideas to improve the atmosphere, but the club don't care about the atmosphere, so nothing changes.

Even away games are often pretty poor nowadays, which is even more embarrassing. In the past you could get away tickets for most games, even if you didn't have credits or even a season ticket, so you got young lads who created an atmosphere. Now it's just the same old people week in week out, so you don't get a change in the atmosphere. The atmospheres great in places like Serbia and Croatia, because vocal fans can get together, there's no stewards to tell you what to do. It's one of the reasons I gave up going, it's not that just fun anymore. The atmosphere at Goodison 10 years ago was the best in the premier league, now it's the worst. With us moving grounds I don't think it's likely the club are going to change everything. Selling all those season tickets to young kid's have hugely damaged the atmosphere, but the club can't do anything about it now.

I'm not worried about the atmosphere this year (last year was my first with a season ticket). High intensity, attacking football with full commitment will have Goodison back to where it should be... hopefully.
As another poster said, we played great attacking football under Martinez the atmosphere was still rubbish, even in the 3-3 derby game the atmosphere was awful. The atmosphere wasn't much different when we were doing poor under Martinez, to when we were going great in 2013/2014.

We also don't want the be given flags by the club like the lovable reds are. Somewhat embarrassing seeing the stewards walk out with the flags and banners, when kick off starts. The fact they sing a few songs before the game and YNWA and then it's silence for most of the game, even in big games. I really don't know why people call them the best fans in the world, not even the best fans in Liverpool, never mind the world. Only sing when they're winning, don't turn up when their playing badly. I'd love the Red Star Belgrade to get into the group stage and play Liverpool and show them what a real atmosphere is.

Mate away tickets recently for Everton games have been super easy to get, in fact some last season didnt even sell out.

"The atmosphere at Goodison 10 years ago was the best in the premier league, now it's the worst" agree on that, but I think one reason is a lot of the people going have no interest in actually supporting the team, its as if its a social event, so we have a great atmosphere in the bar or on the coach but not during the 90 minutes of play
Another problem we have is a lot of our fans don't have much knowledge on how football is played, or rather good football, but since we have been starved of seeing it i guess its understandable. You only have to listen to the whoppers behind the goal shouting "catch it" when the keeper punches the ball but without understanding why the ball was punched, or the meaningless "Turn" and "Switch it" cries, as for the Park End singing "We only sing when were winning", great ditty that for a side who have been struggling to get ahead

If the fans could make the atmosphere at every game the same as the noise we had in our Europe League home wins of 2007/08 then the team would raise their levels and make that extra effort to play for the fans.
It's easy to say the players are overpaid and should put the effort in anyway but when they're getting booed week in, week out, where's the incentive to play better.
I know I wouldn't work as hard as I could if my coworkers were constantly telling me i was [Poor language removed].

Spot on.

I think you're right, our fans we're some of the best at supporting our team when we were losing or needed a extra lift from the crowd. I don't know what's changed, but I remember us creating a boss atmosphere against Sigma Olomouc or whatever they were called. Even in pre season games you got a decent atmosphere occasionally, because people were just there for a laugh. I don't know what's changed, but there are a lot of fans who go nowadays, who have no interest in supporting the team. You don't seem to get the funny shouts you used to get, there isn't as much unity among our supporters as there was 9 10 years ago. I don't know what's happened as you say, but there are just a lot of people, who treat matches like a a day out, rather than supporting your team.

My sentiments exactly!

It's all down to Silva and the players.

We react to what we witness on the pitch.

At least we can go to Saturday's match expecting a positive approach.
