Smith does rub people up the wrong way though. Got to be the first time that's been used ever!Is this yet another one of those famous English moral victories?
Hard to figure out where it all went wrong for him as was anointed as the golden one when he emerged. Surprised he's still in the team. I think though thats a bit of a reality check for England as compared to Australian teams of the past, this one is "relatively" average. Aside from Starc, the seamers are nothing special but at least they bowl a consistent line/length....Had a very fortunate career too, gets dropped by fielders a hell of a lot and his average is plummeting.
There's a lot to be said for bowling consistent line and length and letting the batsmen have brain explosions. Thats all England's attack has to do as well mind. They bowled very well to Head last test, kept him tucked up and uncomfortable, so why did they give that up here? Its maddening.Hard to figure out where it all went wrong for him as was anointed as the golden one when he emerged. Surprised he's still in the team. Doesn’t help that we’re down to the bare bones with our fast bowlers. Guess Australia have struggled with that too apart from Starc. There's a lot to be said for bowling consistent line and length and letting the batsmen have brain explosions. Potts is supposed to be a steady line and length bowler and was poor. Atkinson would have loved this pitch. England have been poor, but they've been unlucky with injuries, although if Cummins and Hazlewood were fit this could have been even more humiliating, they really are two absolutely world class bowlers.Doesn’t help that we’re down to the bare bones with our fast bowlers. Definitely. If the Aussies had their full strength attack it could have been much worse. But if we’d had Archer, Wood and Atkinson fit for the series then we would have looked a lot better. Especially with the way Stokes has bowled and Tongue at times.Potts is supposed to be a steady line and length bowler and was poor. Atkinson would have loved this pitch. We’ve been rubbish but let’s also not deify this Australian team (not saying you have done this). Stupid batting (and some great bowling) and bad fielding has cost us in this series.
