So slightly different view-
Never liked this Bazball marketing. Just smacks of Sky Sports making something they see as old and boring sexy. Rest of media jump on the bandwagon. It’s PL football all over again. Being told how great it all, by Sky employees as we watch 2 very average sides.
Breath taking arrogance from England. Basically picking the team 3 years ago and then minimal real preparation. This whole idea that pace is king when we see Borland and Nasser successfully bowl line and length. Clueless. We deserve to be spanked.
But do we now accept, with a bit of proper preparation, the bulk of this team, who now know what it really takes to win in Oz, are the core to tour in 29/30.
Worryingly the least likely is Stokes who looks absolutely goosed but-
we get someone who isn’t going to just believe the hype in Rob Keys position. Actually challenge MaCullum to see if he can adapt rather than this is how we play nonsense. Amorim anyone?
Ditto the players. Stop telling people how good you are, whilst drinking and playing golf, and prove it. That is by consistently getting big scores under pressure and quality bowling. I don’t need an Aussie to tell me Travis Head can bat. Sick of watching the bugger. We have national PTSD with Smith. To be fair ditto Joe Root, but don’t get sick of him.
Now they might not be good enough, but just ripping up and starting again has never really worked in the past.
They might learn and buckle down, but even if we do need to move on from the Bazball stuff, let’s have someone in place at Key’s level to not believe the hype and try and build on this. Learning opportunities and all that.
The media might hate it as it could be a dull 3.5 years but you never know.
