Put simply, Crawly has consistently demonstrated throughout his test career that he doesn’t have the instinctive decision making ability to be a test opener.
He plays at balls that you would never expect a test opening bat to play at - like ones outside off stump on a good length swinging away in the 1st over….and he doesn’t play at ones that you would expect a test opener to play at - like ones hitting the stumps.
I know it's fanciful, if they can get level for two or three wickets from here, then they could last the day and drag the game to a draw tomorrow.

Well done Jacob Bethall, I recall Stokes getting a century in a losing cause in Oz and it set him up pretty well. On top of that Bethall has unfairly been utilised as a stick to beat England with regardless of results when it's obvious to anyone with a brain he's an international class player and a good selection.
