The Ashes 2017/18

Tbh think I'd have rather played the young all rounder Overton. Offers batting depth and probably no less with the ball. England need Stokes, it's blatantly obvious.
Overton has had 3 bats on tour for 3 ducks. Ball has barely played. Tough decision. Stokes is a massive loss here.

I can't see beyond a comfortable home win myself. The Ashes over recent times tend to go with the home side and with that dodgy England batting line-up, I just don't see it being any different.

The series could already be all but over by the time that idiot Stokes gets out there, that said, I still struggle to see how we'd win even if he played in all five tests.

And I really want to see the odious David Warner fail in this series. I really can't stand the beaut.

Big Blue inhe, won’t hear a bad word from me abar him.
I don't know how 'big' he is, but I've seen Mitchell Starc in an Everton shirt.

As for the match/ series, Aussies have been very dis-enchanted with their team for ages. The pace bowling looks strong, but
a lot will depend on whether England's batsmen can deal with them. Australia's batting is very sus, so it will probably depend on
who's batsmen deal best with the other team's attack.

England look a lot stronger with Stokes, but Moeen Ali isn't being talked about much here as an all-rounder and if he and Bairstow, Root and Cook have a good series England could be OK

England's bowling attack looks samey - Anderson and Broad - and they'll need to do OK.

Mooen could be crucial. The Aussies always look to knock the spinner out of the attack asap, especially an inexperienced one as they did with Simon Kerrigan, and Mason Crane has been very expensive in the warm up games, so I don't think he can be considered. If Mooen gets it right he could surprise them, and he has a knack of taking wickets.

Getting excited now. Even though it's still hours away.

Win toss and bat? Or put them in? I worry about nerves when batting first, but it seems to be the current thing to do - even if it's going to offer a little for the first hour.

Come on engurrrland.

Perhaps a few more thunderstorms like this one which helped us save the 1998 Brisbane test could help us save this one! The Aussies only needed the last 4 wickets with still a couple of hours left on day 5 when this happened.

Just got back home from Adelaide last night, wish we'd delayed the holiday till next week so we could see some of the action of the second test, shaping up to be a cracker that one, first day-night Ashes test in Australia and all.

Anyways; the Aussie media has predictably written off the English already. I hope the English win the Ashes. There's (almost) nothing more cringeworthy in sport than Bill Lawry's commentary when the Australian cricket team is riding the crest of a high.
