Tries at the same time to be controversial and all things to all men in a blokeish manner. Saying that I don't mind him. Not sure what that says about me. :)
agnew and his agendas grate on me as well, he's got his favourites, and they are usually chinless public schoolboys, at least strauss doesn't commentate anymore, crickets version of tim henman. Blowers will be much missed, but TMS are usually the best for getting the oppo perspective, sir viv is on quite often, and as you say getting jim maxwell on is a coup

Yeah, Maxwell doesn't overdo the usual hyperbole of Aussie commentators. I'm trying to remember the name of the commentator from twenty years' back who was wonderfully understated. No extremes of excitement when a wicket fell.

I have always wanted to be at Melbourne cricket ground on Boxing Day for the start of the Melbourne Ashes test. I am finally going this year. I fly to Beijing and stay for a week before I fly to Melbourne on the 23 December. I have my ticket for the Boxing Day. I plan to stay in Melbourne for a week before going to Brisbane for 5 days before heading to Sydney for the last test.

I got a ticket for the Boxing day quite easily and for 30 Aussie dollars. When I tried to get a ticket for the Sydney test it was coming up as 170 ASD. I decided to leave it and try and get one while I am there. Which worked out quite well because when I went to Belfast for the Germany game in October, I got talking to an Aussie who was a member of Sydney Cricket Club. He gave me his name and number and said when I arrive in Sydney give him a bell and he will sort me out with a ticket.

Enjoy it mate. MCG boxing day was always a dream for me and I got to do it in 2010. Aussies all out for 98 and England about 120/0 at the close. After the FA cup win, thats my favourite sporting moment. Would take Everton winning the league or Champions League to dislodge it. Its that good of an experience the MCG you won't care what the score is though. Had a mate there in '06 for Warne's 700th wicket and he rates it as one of his best life experiences.

It’s very much viewed as a Tory sport though, you can’t deny that.
unfortunately the old establishment is still strong in the sport, and quite often holds performance back, anyone who isn't from their 'tribe' is treated as an outsider, unfortunately they are also often our best players, and the ones not intimidated by a load of dumb bogans
