The Ashes 2017/18

I know very little about cricket but wouldn't England stand a better chance if their players weren't always on the lash.

No. You have to let the youngish' act like students on a booze up until they are 'mature' enough to compete. Otherwise, you cramp their creative spirit.

The seeds in yet another Ashes debacle Down Under were certainly sown with the drunken behaviour of that beaut Stokes.

We lost arguably our best player, vice captain and vital cog in England's wheel.

Surely we didn't need to suspend him? Innocent until proven guilty and all that. (that said, the footage of him throwing digs about is rather damning)

But we wasn't playing Bangladesh or Zimbabwe this winter, it's the Ashes, by far the most important series for any English player or supporter so I'd have took him to Australia and to hell with the consequences.

That said, I still believe we'd have lost even with him in the side, but it may well have been closer as his presence would strengthen England in all departments.

If we can now somehow dodge another 5-0 it will be an achievement.

8 of the last 9 Ashes series have now gone with the home side and I would expect the next one in England in 2019 to be no different. The Aussies are clueless at playing the seaming/swinging ball and we are equally as hopeless on Australian pitches with pace and bounce. God only knows when there will be another away win in a series.

At least the Aussies normally pick up a win or two and some draws over here. If this goes as many suspect we will have been whitewashed 3 out of the last 4. Just not good enough.

the home advantage does seem soooo lobsided in cricket these days.

I think we would have a much better spectacle if series were on a neutral venue where both teams were tested.

Three out of four whitewashes certainly isn't good enough (if we do lose 5-0 again) but we are still the last side to win an away Ashes series, and why I would definitely prefer to win 5-0, no matter whether it's 3-2, 2-1 or 5-0 you still claim the little urn.

The Aussies do tend to nick a test when they are in England, and have never been whitewashed during our 4 successive home Ashes wins, but still had to suffer the massive embarrassment of that 60 all out in 98 minutes two years ago that will go down in history. Such an indignity they've never inflicted on us, even when they were the best in the world.

But 8 successive test defeats in Australia tells it's own story. I heard people saying we don't want to go back to the so-called 'dark days of the 90s', but even back then, the Aussies never beat us up that much in their own backyard (or here) even with an at his peak Shane Warne in their side.

England are living up perfectly to the expectation when the squad was announced with no Ben Stokes.

Send them home and/or let the Aussies retire a few.

Wont be 5-0? It will be any score they want.

Can't wait for Tuesday's test to start. It's going to be 30 degrees and not a cloud in sight. I'll have me Everton shirt on so it will be me waving. As far as the actual cricket goes, England are only playing for a bit of pride and hope to put on a bit of a show. Aussies are confident it may be all over by day 3.

Now Australia are winning I take it sledging is ok again?

The amount of whinging they do about it when they're losing is the most kopite thing in all of sport.
