The following words are from a man I regard as my true sensei, who puts his considerable intellect to the task and shines the light on the essence of the problem we share. If you think this is an American problem alone, you need to learn how to pay attention and learn. Trust no longer exists in this world, and it may be a long time before it will return. I believe that what is described below as trust and legitimacy was best described by the Chinese as the "mandate of heaven."

*****

The security system of America is trust, which manifests itself in legitimacy which in turn makes it possible to govern a huge nation largely on consent. The mistake was to believe it was possible to play the identity card endlessly, to set one against another, to destroy trust -- without consequences.

The public is suddenly face to face with the realization that the solid status quo is a fragile facade that might at any moment dissolve into something unrecognizable. It's a veneer masking a crumbling structure. Donald and Hillary are not freaks. They are monsters from our Id. If any proof were needed that the discontent sweeping Europe and the United States is all too real, that the can has reached the end of the road, it may be provided in the next few weeks.

Dallas leaves the Narrative with no place to go. What'll it be? Withdraw the police from the streets? Crack down on the usual suspects? Announce this was the work of that Jayvee team, ISIS? Close the borders? Confiscate the guns? Call in the FBI?

Or maybe we can listen to another speech about how hatred is on it's last legs? There's nowhere to turn without admitting failure. Or perhaps we can just change the subject and talk about the war on women and Christian hatred? What'll it be? It's always worked before, maybe it'll work again.

For once the Narrative will find this can't be spun though it will try, this time in the growing realization that lies may only make it worse, as the former lies have worsened things till now. The root of discontent run deep. The status quo has been living on borrowed money and borrowed truth.

It is now living on borrowed time.

Denial will no longer work. That is the single most important thing to understand.

I'm really bored of people using the word 'Narrative' so often. Its absolutely everywhere. Its like Journalism's equivalent of the word 'Banter'

Okay then, try "fiction we print to substitute for truth and create a plausible reality." I'll stick with the word narrative.

That's what we mean when we use that word, you know. The disconnect comes from the distance that grows between the fiction and the observed reality.

To give an example, observe what the Kopites print and say about LFC with our observed reality. Who is delusional?

Not supporting their actions buuuuut if this makes a few cops think, "hey he's on the floor, three cops are leanin on him, he's unarmed....let's not kill him!" Then maybe it's worth it the long run.

The truly amazing thing about this is that it hadn't happened sooner.

Probably not a popular view mate but I agree. It was always going to hit breaking point if such despicable actions by the police continued to be unaccountable. As usual though it's just more innocents than suffer. Just like terrorists when they blow up innocent people and not the politicians that started the war.

I'd say the security system of America is the exact opposite of that statement, and that it is fear not trust that America secures itself on. I'd also suggest if the media eased up on the fear mongering and suggesting everyone needs to watch their backs because pretty much guaranteed your neighbour is a loon or a terrorist that wants to kill you, then the sheer volume of paranoid loons might dissipate a touch..

That being said, cops killing people will inevitably lead to people killing cops. Look at the rage that swept England when we shot the Brazilian that jumped the barrier, imagine if we did that as often as those American police, to a single section of the population with almost no accountability.
These days, sweeping reforms would be forced almost immediately after an incorrect shooting in England, whereas in America there seems a shrug of the shoulders and as you were, because everyone has guns, its expected that police are ready to shoot someone, and sometimes an bystander is the one that gets it.

I'd suggest they need to ban guns full stop, stop fear mongering and have an overhaul of their police forces policies and repercussions for not following said policies. Get some serious equality training going on and have full blown personal accountability for their actions.

you know, about 10-15 years ago I was reading a interwebs war between some guy from Eastern Europe and people in the States. Guy was getting torched from all sides and made a good point about something I cannot recall but he ended it with "and that's why you fecks won't even be a country in a 100 years".

I laughed and laughed pretty hard at that.

I'm actually of the thought now he might not be that far off honestly...

Honestly think this is just going to escalate. Police officers are now going to be on edge moreso, which will lead to more deaths, which will raise tensions etcetc...

great quote here:

When both sides feel the other is too violent and respond in kind, obviously non-violence will not be the result.
