No, it really is. The act of 'pointing' a gun is irrelevant, it's the perceived risk to life which is the key.

Think about it logically and you'll understand why what you've said is chatting wham, as there's no scope for pre-emptive action otherwise.

A gun isn't a lethal weapon unless the barrel is pointed at someone with their hand on the trigger.

Otherwise what is to stop a UK police officer ... shooting a licenced farmer with a shot gun. Not pointing it at anyone one.

Why not go a step further and wait for them to open fire before using lethal force?
Even better, we can wait to see if the person who's been shot dies.

This could take a while, days even, but until there is confirmation that they're dead then the police cannot open fire.

I like this idea. That way an officer of the same race can go and shoot him to avoid accusations of racism
 
I've looked but can't find it.

Can anyone find a stat for the death/wounded percentage for ever time a gun is fired by the us police
