You'll never get a gun owner advocating gun control. Like turkeys voting for Christmas. Ain't gonna happen.

Not until one of their own are needlessly murdered anyway.

Wasting your time. Yosemite Bill ain't budging in his belief. We all been here many times before.
Only difference being he can't ban people for having a different opinion these days.

Turkey for Christmas? It's ham for Christmas and turkey for Thanksgiving. It's like you don't even try to understand where we're coming from on these issues.

Liberals, mentals, gun toters, they are all just labels Bill.

I deal in facts, the facts tell me that loads of unhinged people shoot loads of people, if these people couldnt buy a gun at Walmart, maybe less people would get shot, strange concept I suppose, maybe its my British way of thinking.

Well, to be fair, black men can't buy a gun at walmart because they get shot by cops while placing a call on their mobile.

Haha...thanks for absolutely proving my point mate. Well in. Oh, and I can't help you if you don't want to face facts. Liberals in this country have come out and said as much. Unless you really want to say they haven't.

Subservient to who mate, who exactly is wishing it, and for what purpose?

If I lived in America, I'd have a gun.

Not because I'd want one, but because of fear - because I'd feel like I needed one.

Everyone else has one, if someone breaks into my house, chances are - they'll have a gun and I'll want to be on a level playing field.

I can understand that.

What I can't understand is what Obama explains here;

Nails it, for me.

He's talking about restricting gun proliferation so that they aren't easily attained by unstable people etc.

The problem in America, as he says, is that the NRA in America refuse to entertain ANY further restrictions on guns, mostly due to a slippery slope fallacy. So basically people can buy guns in America as easily as we can buy a Twix, and that's the problem - they're not sold exclusively to people vetted as responsible; that's what causes mentally ill people to go on shooting sprees, or people with criminal records - which accounts for the vast majority of massacres recently.

Not only that, no effective system of gun safety exists. They don't have to do any viable course of instruction, because the view is they have a legal right to a gun, whether they know how to use one or not.

All Obama wanted to do was tighten the regulation, like a sane person would. Unfortunately, the NRA and Republicans veto it over and over again, and that's why the USA is what it is.

Wow. That quite literally fails in the first sentence. Making guns illegal wouldn't make a population subservient...

In fact, the whole first paragraph. It's like someone took Fox News, extracted all the essential ingredients and produced a blog piece from them.

Do Americans have any concept of what a balanced editorial looks like? Genuine question.

Haha. An "opinion" piece from someone frankly who has thought this issue through.

It's quite apparent to me that where this issue is concerned, GOT group think still prevails.

Carry on with your moralizing and righteous outrage as very few of you are willing or able to discuss the issue without name calling or assigning blame where none exists.

I actually had some tool on Twitter blame me for Sandy Hook. Me.

Sorry but absolutely laughing at the level of pure nonsense on the subject.

I'll be around again the next time a mass shooting happens because remember, it isn't the person that does the killing. It's the gun.

Nonsense Bill, all very civil here.

The country I'm in, is safer than the country you're in.

Bill please answer the question why it is acceptable for the Government to know much about your life (even if not acceptable they have the right to do so) but neither acceptable nor their right to know whether you own a gun or not, and what type of guns you own?

The problem is not gun laws............... criminals will still get guns problem is way people are left to be manipulated and conditioned to follow a religion/ cult or poor mental health....

USA is a pillar of freedom, right to bare arms is defense... we have had ours taken away, places where only police and armys have guns is something you would see in 1930s germany................

What name calling?

I'm fairly sure the person does the killing with the gun, and is therefore able to kill loads of people because of the gun. We had a shooting in the UK today - it was shocking, because it basically doesn't happen. Chicago has had more than two a day this month alone. Each one isn't shocking. Probably gets a line in the paper at best. We had a spree killer named Derrick Bird a few years back. It was shocking, because it basically doesn't ever happen. You have nearly 10 a year.

There really isn't a secret part of you that thinks maybe, just maybe, there's a problem with your gun control? Really?

Ah well, you won't change your mind, I won't either, but I just wish for the sake of the lives lost over there you'd adopt a bit of common sense and tighten up gun controls so it wasn't a legal right to own one - rather a legal privilege.
