Seven shots to the back is excessive in my opinion, but in the legal sense as @Tubey has mentioned a person can use the force that they feel appropriate...

... as long as they can justify it within the context of the event. Can he do that? I'm not sure, but there are cases when one or two rounds aren't enough.

I suspect that he will argue that he used x-rounds to ensure that the threat was removed, and it'll be up to the prosecutors to device - there isn't a set number!

But if we're talking about training of where to shoot, I'm not being facetious but it isn't like the Westerns or the films: you shoot to disable them and not to miss.

One stray round or one that passes through the arm etc (less mass.) could easily ricochet off the metal work or you could miss and kill or injure a bystander.

Therefore, you are trained to shoot the largest mass to reduce the chance of this. Does that mean he should have shot him? Personally, no... but he has.

As such, I'm simply explaining how or why he may have done what he has done. For me, there were far more suitable options than deciding to shoot him...

... whether he was justified in doing so or not.

i don’t disagree with any of this ,I don’t know all the details but the fact a taser seems to have not worked for whatever reason pushes it Towards being more ‘reasonable’ in a legal sense that is.

once they decide to use lethal force then the amount of rounds becomes less important because as you say They simply intended to stop him .

I mean....who do they think is running the country ffs?? "Shot against tyranny" when Trump is in charge? They seem desperate to elect Trump to save us from the 4 years of Trump.

Again, critical thinking and education need SERIOUS reforms after this is all over.

watch the bodycam. See how quick the events unfold. what would you have done in this situation?

I think you need to understand two things:

i) sometimes, police officers are justified to use force (including deadly force)
ii) this doesn't mean that because they use force correctly on that occasion, that its relevant to incidents where they haven't

When Golda Barton dialed 911 on Friday, she hoped emergency responders could help hospitalize her 13-year-old son, who has Asperger syndrome and was having a mental crisis.
Instead, a Salt Lake City police officer repeatedly shot Linden Cameron after he ran away, leaving the boy in serious condition with injuries to his intestines, bladder, shoulder and ankles. Barton says he was unarmed, and police said they didn’t find a weapon at the scene.

“He’s a small child. Why didn’t you just tackle him?” Barton said in a tearful interview with KUTV on Sunday. “He’s a baby. He has mental issues.” Barton said she’s gotten few answers from police. Salt Lake City’s mayor pledged on Sunday that an investigation into the incident would be quick.“No matter the circumstances, what happened on Friday night is a tragedy, and I expect this investigation to be handled swiftly and transparently for the sake of everyone involved,” Mayor Erin Mendenhall (D) said in a statement to the Salt Lake Tribune.

They'll have to go searching through this 13 year old autistic boy's file for some sort of crime or misdemeanor now. Will be tough but I'm sure they can dredge up when he refused to brush his teeth and go to bed on time

Police in the US are utter lunatics
