Overall Law Enforcement do a great job and have multiple positive contacts to help and assist the general public everyday. People aren’t aware that the harshest critics of corrupt/dirty officers are good officers out there.

Chauvin was locked up and charged immediately in Floyd’s death and rightly so. He will get a proper jail sentence, however it will be hard to convict the other responding officers.

Michael Slager executed Walter Scott in cold blood and that death was even more egregious than Floyd’s. He received a twenty year sentence.

There are many police led reform and initiatives taking place throughout the nation. However cries to defund the police are shortsighted and actually ridiculous. Take a look at the spiraling homicides/crime rates in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia etc. unfortunately the criminal element are prospering while victims are not receiving the justice or attention they deserve.

Some interesting statistics published by the FBI Uniform Crime Report. If there are 10,000,000 arrests every year, that means there are probably more than a 100,000,000 positive contacts per year at least between the police and public here in the US. Obviously there will be an arrest disparity depending on the location of the department and if the officers serve in a low crime/high crime area

For "interesting" read "misleading", though of course no-one should be surprised given the sort of Facebook page you've taken that from.

For example - the nine black people killed were just the "unarmed" ones; of the 1004 fatal officer-involved shootings 235 were black, 158 hispanic, 39 other and 202 were of unknown (!) ethnicity; 370 were white.

Thanks for the clarification, where did you find these statistics?

Well, here we go again. Not a lot of context to go along with the video. No idea what preceded this, or what the guy may have trying to get out of his car. Apparently he is still alive, which is borderline miraculous considering he was shot SEVEN times at point blank range.

If you ever wanted to see a complete and total failure of training to deal with a situation then that’s it.

Over here, that would have ended up at worst with a bundle on the floor - the bloke appeared to be ignoring their directions and they would not have wanted him to get into his car. The cops and him might have been hurt but almost certainly not fatally, and there would probably have been more obvious justification to what the cops were doing.

However as the US cops are trained to protect themselves with guns (and to protect the gun they have because if it’s taken off them they’ll probably get shot with it), instead of putting hands on the bloke they’ve pointed guns (and apparently a taser) at him to get compliance.

That hasn’t worked and so they’ve had no other options than let him get into the car, or shoot him.

They’ve proceeded to do the latter with the result that anyone watching that thinks it looks absolutely like an attempted murder, and not unreasonably (given that even in the US no one else in society would get away with shooting an unarmed bloke seven times in the back whilst he gets into his own car).
