I defy anyone to spend a day researching the rise of the alt-right, a day researching the rise of Islamic State, and find any significant difference between the two.

But...but...but IS people have brown skin so how can you be serious with this comparison!

[though do we know the political affiliation of the shooter yet??]

It looks like it was more of a grudge than a politics thing. Whatever it was it isn't a gun issue though

Doesn't really matter does it? Trump's radical right will be emboldened by the press actually being killed. They are the enemy and all. They will call him a patriot. Like they did in Charlottesville.

Sickening stuff.

Talk about politicising such an event.

You just have to throw digs at Trump and his supporters at every opportunity.

To be honest, this sounds like an isolated incident

He had an already existing issue with the paper and decided to go postal on them

That being said, Trump's attitude and stance of trying to make the media into boogeymen doesn't help with stuff like this, but I think it's unfair to pin this one on him or his regime

I don't like Trump, but fairs fair

It doesn't seem like it tbf. The lad had a historical hump with the newspaper. I'm no fan of Trump, but trying to tie this back to his administration and not the deranged relationship America have had with guns for decades is a bit of a stretch

Agree with this.

Without going to much into Trump related content in this tread, it's attitudes such as those blaming/assigning responsibility to Trump which I believe solidifies Trump and his supporters.

It fuels the us against them, fake news etc prerogative Trump relies so heavily on.

It's a gun issue in the sense that a nut bar was able to get a gun, but for all we know he might have got it illegally, in which case what could gun control have done to prevent it?

Maryland has some of the toughest gun laws to I believe.

Appears he has likely been planning this for sometime.

Be interesting to see if the gun(s) used were purchased within the state or elsewhere

The problem is the amount of guns that have flooded the USA over the last 3 decades: more guns (either legally or illegally acquired) means more gun deaths. Countries that highly limit guns have fewer gun deaths.

Not at all, Trump is going all out to discredit the media and at the same time doing nothing about gun control.
This loon may not have been politically motivated but you can be sure he was emboldened by Trumps attacks on the media.
