Attacking kids who survived a massacre because they have the temerity to not be crying and rending their garments 24/7. Jesus wept there is literally no depths these people won't stoop to. Quite literally makes me want to vomit.

Genuinely don't understand how people can defend some of the people who now make up either representatives or supporters of today's GOP.

Conservative viewpoints are a legitimate political position (albeit generally ones that I don't agree with), and a vital part of a 2 party system - balance and compromise are important.

The current incarnation of the Republican Party, however (and a large portion of the people who claim to support it) is absolutely toxic. If you wrote a story containing some of the stuff that comes out of the GOP these days, you'd be sent back to the writers' room for being OTT and unbelievable.

The party as it stands needs to be killed stone dead (electorally) so that a reasonable conservative alternative can regrow from a clean slate.

I think Erick is partially right, especially with regard to his bizarre attack on Scott and silence on Scott Israel. He may have solidly worked himself into a position of influence for the left, but I think the public will tire of him soon. He reminds me of Sandra Fluke in a way.

Scott Israel may be at fault, that's for certain, but the structural issue is the number of guns and their ease of availability to maniac students. This is what Hogg is going after, and Hogg is certainly justified to go after A+ NRA-rating Rick Scott in this case. If there were no guns available to Cruz, then we could certainly go after Israel for failing to run into the school to prevent a knife attack while wielding a billy-club. But the issue isn't what Israel did or didn't do, it is what thousands of NRA-funded Republicans have already done: trade their everyday sensibilities for blinkered and senseless pro-gun legislation.

Well, if you come to the table with nothing to offer, it also seems to be a waste of everyone's time.

Says the guy who supports the organization that was opposed to the Undetectable Firearms Act until it was reworded to not include anything that was currently being manufactured making it completely toothless.

Even then the NRA lost membership and therefore was totally opposed to the Federal Assault Weapons ban.

It's not about protecting member's rights...it's about appearing to in order to make money and increase membership.

And this is where the battle can be won. Mobilise the women’s vote, make it the single issue of removing guns in every election. Within a decade you will have some form of normality.......
Doesn't have to be the single issue, women can multi-task Pete ;)

But agree that if change is going to come suburban women scared to send their kids off to school, and refusing to vote for Republicans who don't do anything about it, are going to be a big factor.

This is a reflection of a significant change in mood.

When asked about Israel, he deflects to Rick Scott. Hogg should be viewed for what he is, a political activist seizing the moment. That's not disparagement, it's just recognizing reality.

As for the rest of your post, I think it's silly. Ignoring that local law enforcement (and sanctimonious, callous, obnoxious local law enforcement at that) blatantly ignored the most warning signs we've ever seen in this incident because it detracts from your pet cause of gun control is, put simply, unreasonable. We need not wait until gun access is removed to discuss that.
