I don't agree with that tbh. That particular line of nonsense needs to be ignored, it is demented attention seeking of the highest order and shouldn't be fed

I certainly see that view point. It's just that NYTimes, USA Today, The Guardian, etc., all have had articles on thise right-wing conspiracy actor nonsense (denouncing them, of course). I have yet to see an article on Fox News webpage or Briebart, etc., that has done the same.

I believe that under the gun violence restraining order here in California his guns could have been taken away with reports such as this.

However I am unclear under current Florida law whether even if the sheriffs department had handled these calls in a competent manner whether it would have been legal without someone taking a restraining order out on him or involuntary commitment for mental care.

@mezzrow, any idea? Seen some chatter of a Baker law but that seems more to commit to an institution temporarily.

I had read this article earlier a relative who lives in Florida sent to me from the Naple's news website

This excerpt my be relevant to what you were saying. I guess they felt it was premature.

"Authorities chose not to commit Cruz at the time under the Baker Act, a law in Florida that allows authorities to hospitalize people for mental evaluation. The decision came under the advisement of clinicians at Henderson Behavioral Health, which school counselors worried may have been "premature" in their advice, according to the DCF notes."

Aye, but they shouldn't imo. It's not worth commenting on and articles on crisis actors give the idea oxygen it doesn't deserve. It's horrendous when these lads harangue the families of victims though, and they should be severely punished by the law

Tbf, that's a bit of an exaggeration. Most right wingers don't think victims are crisis actors and it's unfair to lump them in the same pot. Most 2A lads acknowledge the dead kids are actually happening, they just don't think guns have anything to do with the holes in their bodies

Erm...not based on my FB page.

Being "Baker acted" means you're subject to an involuntary commitment here in Florida. The shooter seems a likely candidate, but I haven't (and won't) find the time to drill down to see whether he had already been a subject of this. The juvenile law likely has a different name.

The BCSD has not covered itself in glory, to say the least. "But trust us, you're safe." It's like Wayne LaPierre wrote the script. (shakes head)

I personally believe school shooters should get names like hurricanes. "Anthrax" "Botulism" "Chaos" "Destruction". Their given names should never be released, and they should just disappear from history as if they had never existed. Wash, rinse, repeat. See what happens.

How many future shooters want to break the new record? Can you name the Columbine shooters? Many can. When will you forget the unique spelling of this particular shooter's name?

There was apparently a medical review of the shooter as a juvenile and the decision was taken it was premature to involuntary commit him.

Given that I'm just not clear what legal grounds BCSD would have to confiscate his weapons or stop him from obtaining them in the first place but I suppose that might be why Scott is proposing GVROs.

Agree there is substantial evidence that notoriety plays a part in the motivation for these attacks and wish the media would never name the individual much less post their pictures or live stream their arraignments.

This goes along with what I was saying the other day about comments on articles on the web. Facebook is the same. Whenever I read them I lose a little of my faith in humanity (present company obviously excepted of course - we are all proper, logical, genius types here on GOT). Note the idiocy does not seem isolated to a particular political bend. There seem to be nutjobs enough to go around.

"right wing" is an odd term. I don't like it, as a conservative, as to me it describes the nutcases to the far right rather than what i view as the norm of the party. Of course, I'm not sure that the party is still normal (been questioning that heavily since Trump's nomination) so maybe there is some validity there.

Not for a second do I think those poor kids are "crisis actors" and to be honest I have been surprised at some of the people I know who seem to have that opinion.

In summation, most people are crazy, daft or both.

Did I hear that right just now?

Trump wants to arm teachers to stop shootings?

Soz if thats been done to death earlier, but not had the news on much.

Just a mirrored observation: I've family members who have decided that I'm "left-wing" for my beliefs that to me are rather centrist / liberal in the US political spectrum. There are groups of people out there (better-angels.org for an example) trying to bridge some of these gaps. I probably share many similar goals with conservatives, but have a different pathway by which I think they should be achieved.

And re your summation - that's quite accurate for most of them, 'cuz no one on GOT would be that way!
