I can already see the Guardian image: an ecstatic Sterling running toward the Kop. And my entire weekend ruined. Doesn't matter if I know it is going to happen. Them thrashing us totally depresses me. Hate the Derby.

It was some other prophet of doom.
Boo. I was hoping it was you because then you would have form on predicting the outcome. Ah well. I admire your attitude. Wish I could share it. There is no picture I can run in my head which has one of our players running away in triumph from their dejected back line.

When he said "you lose the core player who were important" what he meant was "I've lost Suarez and we're a bit [Poor language removed] without him".

Come on Bobby, teach this tit a footballing tactical lesson.

I think he meant to say "I was trusted with a Kings ransom again and I'm known for signing 8 rubbish players for every one who's decent. So it'll take time...and another £200M".

If Coleman doesn't play, it's going to be a horrorshow.

The only hope is to get very aggressive in the centre of the park and cut off sterling and balotelli and run at their centre mids. We need a midfielder who can run at defenders and scare them like Ross Barkley. Wher- oh........

their flanks seem pretty week so I want mirallas and/or mcgeady/lukaku coming inside butt DEFENSIVE SOLIDITY. Sterling and co can catch us on the counter if we're not careful.

4-0 to them.

They've looked like boiled sh1te this season. If they can make West Ham look like Bayern Munich there's hope for us.

I'd rather face these on the crest of a slump than the crest of a wave. Our players cannot handle expectation.

The Anfield Derby record is one that bears down heavily on their players as well as ours. They need to maintain it, we need to break it.

It's a great opportunity for our players to catapult themselves away from the gloom of the start of the season. A win at Anfield will pretty much wipe the slate clean, so there's a massive incentive. We have players who can and have scored against them in the recent past; many of their players are Derby debutatants. That has to weigh in our favour.

As said, if Coleman starts I see no worse than a draw here for us.
100% agree.

The fact the results haven't been going our way suits us. We can almost treat this as a free hit so let's knock it out of the park.

Roberto should print this thread out and put it on dressing room wall use this as ammunition to the players to prove us wrong.

99%of us expecting the worse

What we need to do is contain their central midfield. Gerrard's legs have gone and is there as an emotional talisman more than anything. Other than the odd good long ball I've not seen Henderson do much other than run and cover for him. Sterling is brilliant but has been having a poor patch of form. Balotelli can be marvellous on his day or he can sulk - regardless he will not have the same workrate of Sturridge. Coutinho has been poor this season but I can see Lallana and Sterling being used as a team to exploit the flanks.

We need to man-mark Gerrard and pressure their defence. Make them worry make them snap. They don't like people running at them - every time West Ham went forward they look good to score. Luckily Lukaku likes to run at people. I hope Naismith drops a bit deeper in order to distribute. Or we could put Lukaku on the right and Eto'o up top to draw their CBs?

Who am I kidding with these tactics? It's psychological. We're going to get bummed.
