You’re probably right in general Sass, but I was watching CNN last night when Cuomo (who I generally find obnoxious), was asking one of the CNN field reporters who was on the ground yesterday and during BLM to confirm exactly that, and she basically said the police response was similar and that she saw tear gassed and bloodied rioters yesterday in the same fashion as elsewhere. The main difference she said she saw was that the people yesterday couldn’t believe the cops would do that to them. I’ll have to listen to your NPR link when I have some free time later today.
For me right now the unbelievable thing was how unprepared police were for something entirely predictable.

Sure. So if you’re saying an equivalent response wasn’t enough, then I agree. Should’ve been immediate military response yesterday. A proportionate response to such disproportionate action still isn’t ok.
I was just pointing out that the idea of “contrast” may not have been as big as folks are currently thinking, based on what the CNN reporter shared.

From what i know, and I don't claim to know a lot about the DC police, is they're not really like a real city police force. DC Metro and Virginia state troopers are, and they seem to have did their job last night in the city itself.
The capitol police absolutely were compromised. Somewhere on this great internet there are photos of CP officers wearing 6MWE shirts. Which stands for 6 million wasn't enough.
The Capitol Police needs to be stood down and temporarily replaced by State Troopers from neighboring states until it can be fully restaffed. You can't have cops wearing pro holocaust shirts on the job.

Yeah I get what you’re saying, but I think the contrast is huge.
If BLM protestors had staged an armed incursion into the Capitol there would have been scores of them dead.
They also wouldn’t have been able to stroll out afterwards, and the police wouldn’t have been taking selfies with them

Probably true. That is a different point though. Speculating on what would’ve likely happened had it been a different group, and comparing two things that did actually happen is a different conversation altogether. I’m not saying you’re wrong about that.
I am pretty surprised only one person was shot yesterday.
