Current Affairs The 2020 United States Presidential Election

I kind of want to make it about the entire election and not just the Presidential because the Senate/House of Reps is just as big.
Markey just defeated Kennedy in the Dem primary here in MA.
The first Kennedy to ever lose a congressional race here!
Interestingly, from a House point of view, AOC endorsed Markey and Pelosi endorsed Kennedy.
There's a rift growing in the Democratic side of the House.

I figure at this point any comment about Trump is going to get Biden mention and any mention about Biden is going to get a Trump mention, might as well go and start something for this?

@RAFUH sorry if not good, you can lock/delete as needed.

We are roughly 2 months away from the November 3rd election for about a million positions around the US, top ones being for President, Senate and House of Representatives. Every state is slated to vote on that date.
any point in a poll?

Personally I think Kennedy should have waited. Not sure why he chose Markey to go after. He's, what, almost 80? Warren is 76 too. Would have been faaarrr easier to go after an open seat.

Stay focused on these important dates:

Tuesday, November 3, 2020 – Election Day
Monday, December 14, 2020 – Electors cast their electoral votes
Wednesday, January 6, 2021 – Congress counts and certifies the electoral votes
Wednesday, January 20, 2021 – Inauguration Day

This will not be a normal transition. No matter who you support, you are not going to like what's coming.
Also throw the date the new congress first sits in there
Maybe Monday Jan 4th I think.
The speaker of the house would become POTUS if Trump ties the results up in court on Jan 20

I think he knew the next open seat will be taken by Presley and the way it's looking now, she'd walk it.
Dumb move on his part to challenge Markey who saw the attack coming and swung in hard behind the green new deal and the young progressives.
Warren is 71, not 76 so between her, Markey (with a Presley replacement when he retires) that's the dem delegation from Mass. tied up for a few more terms. He'd also have a hard time beating Maura Healy if she decided to run.
The big question for me is why did Pelosi weigh in at all. No one would have taken any notice if she just sat this one out.
She sees progressives as a huge threat, she's right!

Yeah Im not a fan of her. Truthfully, hopefully the Republican party can just die already and the Democratic party can split so we'd have a closer "right/left" sided discussion. Right now it's almost completely "centrists" and "batshot insane".

I'd guess Pelosi's endorsement of Kennedy had less to do with tamping down the progressive element in the party (Kennedy and Markey are very close on the issues) than with getting a potential longterm senator in place with a name made for fundraising.

(Please note "guess" in preceding sentence.)

It's not a bad thought process tbh. Pelosi is always one of the people that either directly or indirectly help raise the most for the DNC.

Imagine with all the mail-in votes—-it will take significantly longer than normal to have certified returns.
Received a letter in the mail the other day from the Board of Elections on how to request a mail-in ballot. Way ahead of the game this cycle- last time around I believe I received the same letter in mid-October

Truthfully I don't trust those letters going out, especially with everything going on with the USPS and this administration. Thankfully my area just implemented early voting at libraries near me for up to 2 weeks ahead of time or in person voting at a govt place starting next week. I'm definitely doing in person stuff.

Not sure about other areas, but the one I received here in Maryland is legitimate

If there are some around who are interested in previous Presidential elections, the Wicked Game podcast gives a good account of each one. I particularly like the more obscure elections in the nineteenth century

yea, I received an application to vote in the primary (yesterday) by mail but I've no idea if this covers the general election too. I didn't send it back. There seems to be a lot of confusion around here.
I'll vote early in person.
