He is using Heaney's words sure, but it's not directed at American Irish or Irish Americans or well Irish in general.

Neither candidate will be good for America.
Trump would be better for my country's interests and better positioned to deal with the Chinese challenge to America's interests, but I expect him to lose. His pathetic response to COVID has likely squandered any chance he might have had.
The main questions are whether the US media will actually begin to scrutinise Biden if he wins the presidency and Trump leaves the picture, and whether Biden will stand up to the worst elements in his own party (e.g. "the Squad"). I still don't know what his position is on court packing, as he refuses to answer on those rare occasions when a journalist even raises the question.
