EVERTON WOMEN 0 MAN CITY WOMEN 3

4th Placed Everton Women after 22 long days away from league action [or 18 since the Derby Cup win] were finally back in action v 5th Placed Man City on a cold day at Walton Hall Park - Everton started the day 2 points above City. Everton once again had the chance to break that bad record v man city of 14 consecutive defeats in all comps [8 in WSL] spread over 8 years with 4 of the last 6 defeats been 3-1 scorelines [other 1-0 and 4-1] A Everton win would leave them 3 points off top and create a 5 point gap to 5th placed City while Everton are also unbeaten at home in the 1st 4 home League games which is the longest home unbeaten run since 2012 - A season Everton went unbeaten at home the whole season, Everton made 3 changes from their last league game v Reading or 6 changes from the cup game v Liverpool depending what way you seen it hoping to get their 1st league win in 4 games -Everton had many Injuries as well for this match and it was not a full strength team

Man city began well and had 2 very decent chances in the 1st 2mins, the 1st comming from a demi Stokes angled shot across goal that deflected just wide, while the 2nd 30 odd seconds later was a Ellen White free header over, Everton had their 1st half a chance on 11mins when Roebuck gathered Finnigan's header off a corner from the right as there was not enough power to beat the keeper, Moe Wold then had a shot from the edge of the area take a deflection and go wide on 22mins but just mins later Everton conceeded 2 goals in 100 seconds the 1st on 25 when Caroline Weir sent in a brilliant cross and Ellen White's header looped over a helpless Sandy MacIver, the 2nd comming via a corner with Gemma Bonner somehow scoring a header with many Everton players around her, Janine Beckie on 29mins clean through should have made it 3 but somehow shot wide, Up to the 1st goal the game was pretty even but the goals changed the game, Janine Beckie did make it 3-0 in injury time with the last touch again with another header -this time at the back post, the 3rd header of the game from a super cross from Caroline Weir, Game was 3-0 at half time

The 2nd half was all about pride in Reality and that was not helped by Ex Toffee Chloe Kelly comming on, on 50mins Raso send Sorensen clear down the right with a softly-weighted ball over the top. The Danish striker forced Roebuck to make a save but it probably was never going in, but in the end missing players such as Gauvin, Magill, Emslie. Sevecke to name 4 proved to much though Gauvin is out a few more weeks yet, Boye-Hlorkah should have scored header on 80mins but didnt show enough conviction from the cross from around 6 yards out, while Lucy Graham had a shot wide on 87mins but defender was there same time, But the scoreline stayed 3-0 and Everton drop down to 5th after a 15th straight defeat to man city, Everton now play away to Birmingham next sunday, a team Everton beat on the way to getting to the FA Cup Final,

Everton went into their rearranged final Conti Cup Game v Man utd quite frankly Needing a miracle score line of at least a 6 goal win to stand any chance of getting through the the next stage of the Conti Cup, and even if that very unlikely result happened there was no guarantee that this would be good enough, Everton after their late call off at the weekend in the WSL were comming into this cup match having only played that WSL game v Man city in just over 4 weeks, they were up against current WSL league Leaders and Unbeaten man utd, a team that Everton like many have not beat and not even drew again, Everton had lost the 4 games v man utd conceeding 3 goals each defeat. Everton have been on a run of hard games as above and only have the Derby win the last Conti cup game to show in the last few months, Everton started with a very strong team maybe due to needing a big score and not playing to much with 10 of the 11 that started v Man City the last league game starting tonight with Magill replacing Raso upfront, Everton let a select certain few Lucky Fans in [Off which i could have been one] , as ever this Been Everton and after having previous problems with the Roof etc at Walton Park, There was now a delay of 20mins because of the Pitch

I will be honest and say despite having game on side by side with Everton men, i was more taking notice of Everton v Leicester that 1st half of womens game, though checking highlights out, Millie Turner for man utd had 3 half chances and Jane Ross one for man utd

Raso then had what was Everton's 1st chance on 49mins when her low shot was saved by united keeper Earps, Poppy Pattinson was brought on as a sub and just mins later she had a half chance when man utd cleared the cleared the ball out,and Pattinson's shot went wide of the goal, with no real trouble to the man utd goal,Everton then had the ball in the net on 71mins when Izzy christensens corner was flicked on, and put home at the back post but disallowed and not sure what for, but just 2minutes later on 73mins Everton took the lead when after super work by Raso down the left and cutting in found Captain Lucy Graham who turned and shot home, Ella Toon then went close to getting level when her shot was blocked, Maclver then pulled off a super save on 80mins though itwould not have counted due to a foul give, Maclver then made another super save on 83mins when this time Zelem went close, another shot/cross was then blocked again by our keeper on 84mins, Everton then had a few half chances in the last minute but there was 6mins injury time to get through for Everton, Maclver then made another save on 91mins,but Everton finally got one over on man utd to win 1-0

But Everton done themselves proud with a super win that overall would mean nothing but ended up with 6 points from 3 games, but going out and missing out on one of the 2 best Runners up places on Points/Goal difference overall from all the groups

Women’s Super League matches are set to be broadcast live regularly on BBC One and BBC Two from next season, Telegraph Sport can reveal, with the Football Association understood to be close to agreeing a shared TV rights deal with the BBC and Sky Sports.

The move would see the WSL reach its largest ever television audience from next term, and would ensure top-flight live football had a permanent home on the flagship BBC channels for the first time since 1988.

WSL sources have told Telegraph Sport that negotiations are yet to be finalised but a deal is expected to be reached in January.

The BBC currently show games on the Red Button but confidence is high that a dual-agreement with the BBC and Sky will help transform the women’s game in England. It would ensure both a high level of exposure on free-to-air television and significant financial income from broadcasters for the first time.

The FA, which runs the WSL, has never previously received more than a relatively nominal amount of money for the league’s television rights, with the current rights holders - BBC and BT Sport - said to be covering production costs only, but that contract expires at the end of the current season.

The existing arrangement sees BT Sport typically show one match every Sunday, in the 14:30 GMT slot, after the BBC has broadcasted a 12:30 match on the Red Button service, the iPlayer and online, as well as highlights on the Women's Football Show.

All of this season’s remaining games have been shown on the FA Player, the governing body’s free online platform, which is available worldwide.

It has not yet been decided which match packages would be shown on BBC One & Two and Sky Sports, whose swoop to secure rights ahead of BT Sport was first reported by Telegraph Sport in September. Talks remain ongoing regarding those details including the kick-off times of the games that will be broadcasted.

But growing audience numbers will be key to the sport’s future success. Last year, the FA said that the BBC Red Button’s peak WSL viewing figures were averaging 285,000 per game, while BT Sport’s WSL matches had seen a peak of 85,000 viewers. Upon moving to the BBC's flagship channels, the WSL will expect to see those numbers soar.

The BBC showed a selection of live men’s top-flight games for the first time in the Premier League era, earlier in 2020, and set a new record for the division, announcing that 5.7 million people had tuned in to Southampton’s win over Manchester City in July.

The Corporation, along with Sky and Amazon, broadcasted men’s fixtures free-to-air this year as part of an agreement with the Government while Premier League football returned during the coronavirus pandemic, without fans in attendance.

Additionally, all of January’s Premier League games will be shown live on TV, but none of them will be on the BBC, unlike earlier this term. But the BBC’s coverage of international women’s football has been long-standing, with an estimated 47 per cent of the UK population tuning in to 2019’s Women’s World Cup.

A peak audience of 11.7m watched England’s semi-final defeat against the United States, while it is understood that the Women’s Football Show highlights programme has averaged over 500,000 viewers each Sunday night in the WSL this season

The domestic WSL rights negotiations come after the FA agreed a deal in September that sees WSL games shown live in Germany, Italy and the United States, through Atalanta Media's NBC Sports and DAZN channels. Last year, agreements were also reached to sell overseas rights to Sky Mexico and Scandinavian broadcaster NENT.

SUNDAY 20TH DECEMBER 12.30PM KO
WOMENS SUPER LEAGUE
ARSENAL WOMEN 4 EVERTON WOMEN 0

Everton women went into this difficult final tough fixture of 2020 after a tough run of WSL and Cup games, knowing that win, lose or draw they would be 5th going into the game at home to Leaders Man Utd Women in the WSL Jan 10th, Everton were playing away to Arsenal having lost the last 12 games all comps or 15 from 16 all comps v Arsenal with the last game Everton actually didnt lose comming in 2012 with the last victory been 2011 - so even an unlikely draw would be a good result with Arsenal only losing 2 of the last 35 WSL home games over 4 years which came both v Chelsea. Since winning their opening four Women’s Super League games this season, Everton are winless in the following four Drew 2 and Lost 2, they last went on a longer winless run in November 2018 which was 10 games. Everton were once again having to deal with a much-depleted squad once again with at least 4 main players still out and have been out a number of weeks, Gauvin, Emslie, Sevecke just to name 3 of them, Everton made 2 changes to the starting line up that beat Man Utd and they were Raso comming back in for Magill and 17 year old Grace Clinton who played so well v Liverpool in the Conti Cup making her Full WSL debut after only ever playing less than 20mins of WSL Action

The game kicked off and it didnt start well for Everton who were behind on 4mins when Beth Mead's cross from the right, left Jordan Nobbs on her 1st start since ocotber having an easy finish from 2 yards out, after some nice passing around the edge of the box, It became 2-0 on 10minutes when
A long ball forward released Jill Roord behind the Everton defence on the right wing with a easy cross across the box leaving Caitlin Foord a simple finish tuck the ball back across goal from again yards out. Arsenal could have made it 3 on 15mins when Jordan Nobbs picked out Foord but the Australian scooped her shot over the Everton bar from just inside the box when in space, Everton were really struggling to take any foot hold in the game against one of the better teams once again in the WSL who put Star Striker Vivianne Miedema on the bench which is very rare, Everton were so close to getting back in the game on 21mins when Arsenal trying to play from the back were caught out with Sorensen seeing her strike blocked on the near post, before Raso draged her shot wide via a deflection after Arsenal failed to clear [Chances below]. Arsenal again not for the 1st time went close when Jen Beattie headed over with a clear header on 37mins [Chance below]-she revealed this week that she is battling cancer, the only problems Everton were really causing Arsenal were when Arsenal were causing them themselves with the score 2-0 to Arsenal at Half Time

Everton actually came out the 2nd half looking a lot better with Arsenal not really in it,But on 59misn Toffees keeper Sandy MacIver then kept out Jill Roord's shot from Jordan Nobbs' pull-back in a rare 2nd half attempt from Arsenal, but right from the following corner Everton then went 3-0 down on 60mins when Jen Beattie headed home from that corner after Maclver missed the ball, just like the 1st half Arsenal then scored another quick goal when just 2mins later on 62mins it was 4-0 after A ball forward picked out Beth Mead on the right wing with the forward running towards the box She then cut onto her left foot and curled a great shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Arsenal were close to a 5th on 67mins when Arsenal got through the Everton defence again when Beth Mead released Caitlin Foord one-on-one with Toffees keeper Sandy MacIver. Foord went around the keeper but couldt get her shot away before MacIver narrows the angle and manages to deflect the ball behind for a corner after comming out the area and making a great tackle, On 82mins Sandy Maclver then pulled off a quality save from around 7 yards out from point blank Range after Vivianne Miedema got the ball through to Kim Little inside the Everton box, and the Scotland international saw her low shot saved [Chance below], Everton were close to getting a consolation goal back on 87mins with what would have been goal of the game when Boye-Hlorkah rattled the crossbar with a fierce left-footed strike from the edge of the box, But in reality it was a game were more than worthy winners who got only there 3rd clean sheet of the season in the WSL in what was a disappointing end to the year for Everton Women
