"is this due to supply or demand?"
Good point Bruce, if they shut the food banks down there will be no demand for them. Can you imagine the savings if we close the NHS and people stop needing medical care ? Tax cuts right there.

Just to clarify here, I'm not the British Medical Journal so have no connection with the article or the research that underpinned it :)

Not really, but I saw the study in my Feedly when I woke up this morning so thought I'd share it in here. I'm happy to keep it to myself in future if you'd rather?

No, I was rather hoping you'd suddenly realised inequality is a massive issue in our society which desperately needs to be tackled head on, for the good of everyone. Oh well.

It's difficult to draw any sensible conclusion from the BMJ research given that G P s are only one of the routes to a referral.

For me - and I appreciate that others come from a different standpoint - the first question of interest is: are some children, elderly and other vulnerable people going to bed hungry?

Use foodbanks or whatever to deal with that situation first of all, then worry about the rest of it later.

I have absolutely no idea who to vote for. I won't vote Labour as i believe Milliband and Balls are more dangerous than Cameron and Gideon and the prospect of the SNP being involved scares the life out of me. I can't vote Conservative because of the way the treat the most vulnerable people in society, i can't vote UKIP as they are a racist brain dead bunch of idiots who are attracting the mentality challenged amongst us due to the failings of the two main political parties and the Lib Dems are wet and have no backbone but perhaps make more sense than most right now?

Chris, am i really leaning towards voting Lib Dem?

(i'd like to state that i know i'm actually voting for my local candidate and that the best local candidate might come from any political party but there is a bigger picture).

Why do you think the 2 Eds are so dangerous and why do the SNP scare you? Genuine questions.

I think the rest of your post demonstrates how disillusioned people are with the options on the table. Voting for your local candidate is exactly the right thing to do. Vote for the person who will represent you as an individual. The bigger picture will look after itself. If you don't like the direction any party is going in the best thing you can do is lobby your local mp. Ask them how they voted on issues you've cared about in the past and how they're going to vote on future issues. Once in office they're there to serve our needs. Use the service.

from last nights scottish leaders debate
  • Sturgeon also revealed that she would vote for full fiscal autonomy for Scotland within a year. “As Scotland’s voice in the House of Commons, if the SNP is there in numbers we will be arguing for as many powers to come to Scotland as quickly as possible. I would like it as quickly as the other parties agree to give it,” she said. Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy said the idea of voluntarily giving up the pooling and sharing of resources, and the ability to transfer money across the UK, doesn’t make sense.
that would be intresting as without any input from the rest of the Uk they would using the current figures be £7 billion pound worse of, or does she mean we will keep the scottish money up here and you can make up the shortfall ?
Labour should be all over this

TNS POLL LAB 33% (+1), CON 30% (-3), LIB DEM 8% (0), UKIP 19% (+3), GREEN 4% (-1), OTHER 7 (0)

Last 3 polls now gone Labour's way by 1%-3%.

It has to be said, the Tories look in a bit of a mild panic and have no coherent line of attack. They started off this campaign with a decapitation strategy of going for the Labour leader: incompetent, weak, easily led etc. Miliband cuts through that with a couple of half decent debate performances and announcements of popular policies...and now we have the spectre of the Defence Secretary, Fallon, calling Miliband a backstabber who got his job as leader by seeing off his own brother...which gives out a mixed message to the public now on how they should see Miliband - weak/incompetent or ruthless/determined.

I think they'd be well advised to take that spin supremo Lynton Crosby out round the back and bullet him. He's overseeing a disaster for the Tories here.
